NEWS: Trump has been strategizing methods to secure or extract Iran's nuclear materials, sources told @CBSNews. The timing of any such an operation – if he were to order it – remained unclear Friday night. One source said he has made no decision yet. But planning has centered on the possible deployment of forces from Joint Special Operations Command, the elite military unit often tasked with the most sensitive counter-proliferation missions, two of the sources said. As the partial government shutdown fuels chaos at airports nationwide, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle tell CBS News’ @CHueyBurns why they believe Congress can’t reach a deal to fund DHS — as TSA officers continue working without pay.

I asked Speaker Johnson about the reported $200B Iran war request to Congress. He said it’s “not a random number,” will be “detailed and specified,” and “we’ll look at that,” stressing the U.S. must “adequately fund defense” — even as he described the mission as “all but complete.”

Four days ago on Face the Nation, WH eco adviser Kevin Hassett said the Pentagon had spent $12B in first 16 days of war that was estimated to last 4-6 weeks; he said at that time that the administration was "not necessarily going to need any kind of supplemental." He said Vought will look into it....

Susan Collins: “I don't know about the 200 billion. I thought I'd anticipate your question...I'd have to see what it's for and how it's broken down. It's considerably higher than I would have guessed.” Coons: “That is a striking number…that's a really eye popping number."

NEW: Trump hasn't made up his mind yet on whether he wants to send American forces into Iran and seize the country's nuclear material, which would be a very dangerous operation. In private conversations, he has said: "I have a lot of decisions to make." Pentagon has prepared multiple options for the president as potential next steps in the Iran war. IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said Wednesday he doubts the nuclear program can be destroyed militarily – because it's a vast program built over the decades and scattered across a number of facilities. @ellee_watson @margbrennan and me @CBSNews cbsnews.com/news/trump-ame…

!! The FAA announces there were two more recent close calls between a passenger jet and a helicopter. On Feb. 27, AA 1657 and a police helicopter nearly collided on Feb 27 at San Antonio International airport. On March 2, a private plane and helicopter were on converging courses before the helicopter pulled away to prevent a collision at Hollywood Burbank airport. NTSB Chair @JenniferHomendy has warned, repeatedly, that a mid-air collision could happen at Burbank because of heavy airspace traffic.

BRITT tells me she's still reviewing Dems' latest offer on DHS. "I still believe the pathway forward is through a conversation," she said. "So I'm glad after 18 days we finally got something back, but I think the only way to break through is for members to get together."

"It makes me second guess the value of these alliances. I am certain I am not the only senator who feels this way," Sen. Graham says of Trump's anger that most of the US's NATO allies don't want to get involved in military operation against Iran or help secure the Strait of Hormuz.
Lindsey Graham@LindseyGrahamSC

Just spoke to @POTUS about our European allies’ unwillingness to provide assets to keep the Strait of Hormuz functioning, which benefits Europe far more than America. I have never heard him so angry in my life. I share that anger given what’s at stake. The arrogance of our allies to suggest that Iran with a nuclear weapon is of little concern and that military action to stop the ayatollah from acquiring a nuclear bomb is our problem not theirs is beyond offensive. The European approach to containing the ayatollah’s nuclear ambitions have proven to be a miserable failure. The repercussions of providing little assistance to keep the Strait of Hormuz functioning are going to be wide and deep for Europe and America. I consider myself very forward-leaning on supporting alliances, however at a time of real testing like this, it makes me second guess the value of these alliances. I am certain I am not the only senator who feels this way.
