It’s deeply troubling that emerging technology can be used to extract CVR audio from visualized data we share to help the public understand the circumstances of an accident. Laws against releasing CVR audio exist to protect privacy, preserve the integrity of NTSB investigations, and out of respect for accident victims and their families during a time of tremendous loss.   NTSB is taking steps to address this issue. The public docket is offline for now, and we are urging X, Reddit, and others to take such disgusting, manipulated posts down. ⬇️
NTSB Newsroom@NTSB_Newsroom

The NTSB is aware that advances in image recognition and computational methods have enabled individuals to reconstruct approximations of cockpit voice recorder audio from sound spectrum imagery released as part of NTSB investigations, including the ongoing investigation of the crash last year of UPS flight 2976 in Louisville, Kentucky. The NTSB does not release cockpit audio recordings. Federal law prohibits such public release due to the highly sensitive nature of verbal communications inside the cockpit. The NTSB takes these privacy restrictions seriously. The NTSB docket system is temporarily unavailable as we examine the scope of the issue and evaluate solutions. We hope to restore access to the docket system as soon as possible.

Our East Palestine investigation resulted in the issuance of safety recommendations that remain open over three years later… people living in the community of East Palestine and all Americans deserve no less than a comprehensive approach that addresses critical rail safety issues.

I want to extend our sincere gratitude to @RepSamGraves and @RepRickLarsen for their leadership on #aviation #safety and for working with us on the ALERT Act. For the first time in history, Congress is advancing legislation that comprehensively addresses all @NTSB recommendations issued following a major aviation disaster. This unprecedented, bipartisan commitment from both the Senate, led by @SenTedCruz and @SenatorCantwell, and the House underscores a shared determination to ensure such a tragedy never occurs again and to safeguard lives across the National Airspace System. We stand ready to support @SenateCommerce, @commercedems, @TransportGOP, and @TransportDems as they deliberate on the ROTOR and ALERT Acts and work to deliver a final bill to the President for consideration. On January 27, 2026, we adopted 50 safety recommendations which, once fully implemented, will save lives. To prevent another midair collision, it is imperative that the final legislation include the best of both bills and all 50 recommendations in their entirety. As I have long emphasized, NTSB investigations represent only the first step toward progress. True safety change comes through the full implementation of our safety recommendations. Seventeen years after the Colgan accident, many remain unfulfilled—a reality that is simply unacceptable.

@davidshepardson @Reuters I type about 110 words per minute on computer. My mom, a legal secretary when I was young, made sure I took typing in school, explaining it would help me throughout life. So true! In 1994, when I first applied to work on the Hill, I had to take a typing test. Aced it! Lol

This is Grace Maxwell. Left in 2008, when we told the FAA “the equipage of aircraft with ADS-B In capability will provide an immediate and substantial contribution to safety, especially during operations in and around airports." Right: Grace at the university she was flying back to when she died onboard Flight 5342 on January 29, 2025. I have said many times that our investigation is just the first step. If our recommendations — ALL of our recommendations — are not fully implemented or they are watered-down to the point where they are no longer our recommendations, more lives will be lost. Grace’s death was preventable! She should be with her family today.
