Celebs saying ‘Transwomen are women’ etc is a modern version of the stunts Chris Morris pulled on Brasseye etc. Celebrities will repeat things they don’t understand if they are told it’s for a good cause , is ‘science’ and think it helps their career. It’s what they do.

Activists have been lobbying the government to loosen the law around surrogacy to make it more like IVF. I've argued we should be doing the opposite: making it more like adoption in terms of the level of welfare checks. (Link next)

Our founder is quoted in today’s @thetimes expressing our concern about increasing numbers of single men pursuing surrogacy.

@theglassfish13 It's not 2020 any more, my friend. Lies, slurs and calling reasonable discussion 'hateful rhetoric' is a major reason public support for genderism has tanked. Never have a bunch of activists been so oblivious to the harm they've done to their own cause.

I know there are ongoing court cases but I do think this series of attacks, with some linked to an Iran-linked Islamist terrorist group, should be a higher order of government and public concern that it currently appears to be.

In maybe the most convincing defense of Israel’s offensive against Hezbollah that anyone has yet put forward, @tomfriedman proposes the only alternative he can think of: US boots on the ground that will fight fiercely, risking life and limb, to save both Lebanon and Israel from the Iranian proxy. I, um, don’t know if, erm…what do you even say? This isn’t really a critique of Friedman. His desperate flailing for an alternative is a function of his honesty. He knows what Hezbollah is. He knows its plan is to fight for all time, martyring both themselves and their fellow countrymen on the religious promise that the Israelis will inevitably be cut down and annihilated, ushering in a new age of Islamic triumph. He knows that must be confronted or it will again drag everyone to never-ending war. Most critiques of the offensive pretend that this isn’t true. Friedman won’t pretend, and I have great respect for that fact. But his flailing for an alternative to the current situation still shows that once you grasp what Hezbollah is — undeterrable, messianic, self-destructive for Lebanon — you’re kind of stuck with the broad outlines of Israel’s current policy. Even most Lebanese understand this. They have no love lost for Israel, but they blame Hezbollah for what’s happening right now. Maybe Friedman’s next column should tell us about that part of the story. About how real-life Lebanese, rather than a fantasy American expeditionary force, might cut this Gordian knot.

Yes, the people who call themselves 'trans' exist and they deserve exactly the same rights as everyone else, which, fortunately, they already have in the UK. It would rightly be considered discrimination if a person was refused employment, housing or the vote because they identified as trans. 'Trans women are women' is a thought-terminating cliché. Men are not women. That doesn't mean they're not allowed to present themselves however they like, call themselves whatever they like and believe whatever they like about themselves. It means they haven't changed sex. If we replace the objective, observable characteristic of sex with the unfalsifiable concept of gender identify, women and girls lose, among other things, their right to fair and safe sport and women-only spaces, including changing rooms, prison cells and rape crisis services. Women and girls are provably more vulnerable to forms of abuse including sexual assault, harassment and voyeurism in mixed-sex spaces. There is no evidence that trans-identified men don't have exactly the same rates of criminal offending as all other men. Trans people exist. I have no desire for them not to exist; indeed, I wish them safety, happiness and health. However, 'existence' does not, and should not, mean the violation of other people's right to privacy, dignity and freedom of speech, or the reconfiguration of society to indulge a fallacy.

Try not to choke on your cornflakes but the Guardian has written a piece acknowledging that sex cannot be changed and explaining why males who went through male puberty have an unfair advantage over women in sport. As Tanya Aldred writes: ‘These physical advantages mean that the fastest 14-year-old boys run the 100m more quickly than the women’s world record; the No 1 women’s tennis player, Aryna Sabalenka, lost last December’s battle of the sexes game to an out-of-shape Nick Kyrgios, then ranked at No 671 in the world; and if there were no category for women at the Olympics, there would be no female medallists – except in equestrian events, and possibly static shooting. This does not mean that women’s sport is lesser, it just means the two sexes are different.’ Please no one tell ‘right side of history’ woke bros Owen Jones, Jonathan Liew, Alistair Campbell etc Link below ⬇️

And it's not just ignorance of what feminists have said. It's ignorance of how much we have listened, how much we've bent ourselves into pretzels trying to make the other side's arguments make sense. It's assuming just because you can't be arsed to hear us, we can't hear you.

As one of many feminists who was dutifully ploughing through Whipping Girl, earnestly trying to make it make sense long before these guys had ever heard of a preferred pronoun, I find the ignorance and arrogance of these men maddening, but also such a fine illustration of gender
ALASTAIR CAMPBELL@campbellclaret

For those in the middle of the @jk_rowling conversation I strongly recommend you listen to @RestIsPolitics LEADING interview with @SarahEMcBride - you could not wish to hear a more compelling, passionate and measured advocate of trans rights and human rights. m.youtube.com/watch?v=UvxQze…

People need to understand that transvestites - including doctors - have a sexual fetish (or rather, a paraphilia), and they are performing this fetish in public, including at their place of work. There is no way out of this fact. This is what is being allowed.

@glosswitch @faintlyfalling @ForWomenScot It’s very like Jolyon Maugham. They think they are entitled to Rowling’s attentions despite her being their far superior in career achievements. There’s no way they’d behave in a similarly entitled way with a comparably successful male figure. They’d exhibit deference.

The overweening desire for admiration and the extreme fragility to the mildest irreverence or dissent were apparent in this trivial exchange as long ago as 2019. I think people looked away from it because the causes the man took up then had more mainstream popularity and support

This is a man who desires nothing more than to be admired, whose entire shtick revolves around presenting himself as a hero worthy of envy and emulation (lest we forget, he 'identifies with Gandhi and Martin Luther King'). To people like Maugham, any perceived diminution of what they believe to be their exalted status feels like a mortal attack, which is why every loss must be spun as a win, and black must be made to be white if the facts threaten his self-image. He's just the latest in a long line of people on social media who think they're dealing me a fatal blow by telling me I've lost popularity, that my legacy is tarnished or that former fans hate me. None of these people appear to grasped yet that I'm completely indifferent to being disliked by people I've never met, especially those I do not respect because of their online behaviour or what I believe to be their irrational and illiberal views. Maugham is a textbook narcissist who can't believe that everyone else doesn't live life with an unceasing thirst for validation from complete strangers. In spite of the fact that we've never met, and that as the years have rolled by I've been very open about the fact that I find his public behaviour increasingly bizarre, he seems to genuinely believe that the loss of his approval will cause me anguish. In reality, it's a welcome source of ongoing entertainment, so long may he continue.

That's because I wasn't interested in being used to boost the viewing figures of a pair of exceptionally arrogant men whose understanding of this issue drips with classism and misogyny, @campbellclaret. If you're genuinely interested in a debate I'm at a loss to understand why you're uninterested in interviewing @ForWomenScot, who secured the Supreme Court victory and are therefore THE leading voices on this issue. But perhaps your charming daughter has adequately represented the entire Campbell family's view, by describing them as 'ugly' women, with whom she wouldn't 'want to be in a room'?

It's something I mentioned in Hags, this "non-aspirational" quality. Of course plastic, never-ageing femininity is more "aspirational" than femaleness. But an "aspirational" feminism in that sense isn't very feminist.

Don't want to keep on about the Grace Campbell thing, but it's laughable that anyone could think her observation that GC feminism isn't "aspirational" is insightful. Like, we know that a feminism that takes bodies and care and ageing into account isn't "aspirational" >

The Syrian president, foreign minister and minister of interior came to inaugurate a renovated basketball court in Damascus today. The crowd used the opportunity of a mass gathering to sing: "curse your soul, Nasrallah!" Hezbollah entered the civil war in Syria in 2012 and took a leading role in the ethnic cleansing of Homs and its outskirts, eastern Aleppo, south Idlib, north Hama and the outskirts of Damascus. Hezbollah fighters laid a siege on Madaya and Zabadani as well as the southern suburbs of Damascus starving dozens to death. In Qusair, near the border with Lebanon, Hezbollah prevented Sunni residents from returning after forcibly displacing them, and brought Shia settlers from Lebanon, their family members, to occupy Sunni homes instead. Hezbollah is directly responsible for the death of tens of thousands of Syrians and ethnic cleansing of millions. On the siege of Madaya and Zabadani youtube.com/watch?v=LZJLDP… Supporters of Hezbollah online knew about this crime due to media coverage and celebrated it, mocking the starving Syrians by posting photos of their plentiful food shaam.org/news/syria-new…

@mozzer39 @LGBTQPrideUK .... Women’s rights must include, at a minimum, the right to separate ourselves from men where necessary, because, consistently across space and time, men use their physicality to threaten our safety and personal integrity. I don’t think this is very complicated as an idea.

@mozzer39 @akuareindorf @LGBTQPrideUK You can’t defend class politics while also allowing people to pretend a given class doesn’t exist as a politically relevant group. You are defending individualist claims of oppression *while ignoring what that means for class politics*.
