Tired of the all-male panels and articles on the #Balkans without female voices, I'm trying to make the excuses harder by creating a #WomenAlsoKnowBalkans list of brilliant female researchers & practitioners working in/on the Balkans: twitter.com/EBStavrevska/l…. Who else to add?

Just watched a white dude mansplain feminist geography to @ProfGillian . Oops... word of advice: if you’re told you’re lacking key scholarship (feminist, queer, anti racist...) don’t justify your exclusions. Ask for references and get excited for your scholarship to be expanded.

@jilltxt @ProfGillian Exactly! An altcite can be in response to a total void, not just a reaction to selective citational practices but also those that aren't selective at all - talking about cyberspace without giving any references? Think about Boym on lazy Internet patriots in the 90s #altcite
English

Another #altcite on #algorithmicwar. It isn’t just in academia that good research Is routinely overlooked or miscredited.@guardian and other news media could consider wider citational practices too.
Louise Amoore@AmooreLouise
This is not a new phenomenon. I published on 'Algorithmic War' in @antipodeonline in 2008, a decade... It is a specific form of machine learning that is novel in war futures.
English

@jilltxt @ProfGillian You can altcite without citations too!! We are gathering up quite a strong collection of references - and AoIR seems like there are some fruitful discussions going on (and so many excellent First Nations and BME/PoC people and women in attendance!) ?
English

And we’d add Hope Nicholson and Cherie Dimaline, and the wonderful anthology, Walking In The Clouds edited by Grace Dillon to that list :-)

@victoria_okoye @AyaMusmar @O_P_E_R_A And of course not to in any way diminish #citeblackwomen - the altcite should be in the moment or event, live tracking reactions as they happen
English

@altcite Great - thanks! This was something @AyaMusmar actually asked me about when we discussed this after @O_P_E_R_A brought this to our attention!! I should have properly cited her, actually. I look forward to doing this as well as #citeblackwomen :)
English

@altcite This is cool - so the alternative citations refer to citing alternative, non-canonical scholars which is great; do you also see this as including people “writing” on different platforms (ex: tweets, blogs, sharing indigenous oral knowledges, etc) to open up idea of “scholar”?
English

Ready for day 2! Keep up with the #altcite tag, and check out the website to see where our cites are up to: altcite.wixsite.com/home If you're at a research group AGM today, don't forget to mention @altcite (and show off your cards and stickers if you have them!) #RGSIBG18 #RGS18
