The autistic urge to not register red flags as red flags because you’re so used to people misinterpreting your harmless behaviours and you don’t want to do that to anyone else, so you go *overboard* trying to find acceptable explanations for other people’s unacceptable behaviour.

"The gap between knowing what you want and going after it is where fear thrives. You don’t need enough courage for the entire journey. You only need courage for the next step." A tiny thought in the @farnamstreet newsletter fs.blog/brain-food/aug…

The longer the time frame for results, the less you need intensity and the more you need consistency. Consistency is doing it when you don’t feel like doing it. If you want advantageous divergence, you have to do the things that matter on your best day and your worst day.

@ItsEmilyKaty I spent all my lunchtimes and breaks in the school library 🥰 I loved it there, the librarian would put soft background music, make tea for those who were alway at the library and I would just go into the parallel worlds narrated by the books. Bliss ❤️

The school library makes the experience of school ever so slightly easier for so many neurodivergent kids.

Baby elephants typically don't learn to control their trunks until they're about a year old, which may result in behavior like this.

How do we create more compassionate communities? Here is a little excerpt from chapter 3, “thinking our way to compassion”. This chapter discusses some brilliant work from @UQPsych researchers examining mental time travel #choosecompassion #365daysofcompassion

@VyoletteD @ADHDdesigner I totally understand the part about dresses flowing nicely! I have never liked skirts, and have rarely worn them, but the swirling effect of plaited long skirts is just beautiful 😍

@ADHDdesigner My actions and play style were very tomboyish, but I'd have time if trying really hard to be girly. Knew that was expected for approval and I really wanted approval. Plus dresses swirled so nicely when I spun. 😀

Question for ADHD women, did you consider yourself more tomboyish or girly when you were a kid?

@AutSciPerson I completely understand! And when I started working on my own, I would literally time myself going to the bathroom so I would not count that into the hours worked for a client 🫠

Just to clarify what I mean by the "working X hours" statement, here are things I would consider not work: -Having a brief conversation with a coworker -Going to the bathroom -Saying hi to spouse/family if you work from home -Checking personal email -Getting a drink 1/2
@[email protected]@AutSciPerson

Some reasons why some autistic people seem "more efficient" to allistic people: -See that they're not hitting the right socializing steps in group settings so tries to make up for it in work -Trusts that "working X hours" means working that entire time. 1/6

Anyone else get done with talking to someone on a recording/podcast situation and think "I have absolutely no idea what I have just said in the past hour." Happens everytime! 🤷🏻

Scientists have found evidence that those who cultivate love and compassion have greater peace of mind, while constant anger and fear make us uneasy and are bad for health. Common sense too tells us that people who are moved by love and compassion are peaceful and happy.

I doubt I’ll ever stop studying in my life, it’s a love story that I hope will continue for a very long time… so anything that helps me understand how to make that relationship healthier is welcome 🤩

You will not know if you’re strong enough to do what you need to do, until you try. If it doesn’t work out, you have more information to plan your next move. What an empowering discovery your strength could be. #365daysofcompassion #MentalHeath
