Tips from an airline pilot: Don’t crowd the entrance at the gate. Board with your zone, otherwise it slows everything down. Likewise, when you get to your seat, move into your row to stow your bags. Again, it slows everything down if you don’t, especially for those sitting in the back. Don’t drink the water or coffee. The water tanks only get cleaned out occasionally. Bring your water and coffee onboard. The tones you hear are just the crew communicating with each other. Use your AirPods or headphones as much as you can. It’ll make the flight infinitely quieter. Exit rows can be a great seat with extra legroom but not all exit rows are created equal. The rows immediately adjacent to the emergency exits on most jets don’t recline. Turbulence is normal, expected, completely safe, and all aircraft are built for it. It’s not in any way, shape, or form, dangerous. It may be uncomfortable but that’s the worst that can happen. Aircraft malfunctions and emergencies happen from time to time. Trust me, the crews have been trained ad infinitum on it all. Over and over again. Bottom line, we want to get home to our families and friends too. Any questions? Pilots want to get home too….

Community college is the best path out of high school. It’s lowers the financial risk while the career path is chosen. My daughter changed majors 3x and is still graduating with zero debt (we didn’t go into debt either). She also landed a job that will actually utilize her education.

What we really need is an affordable way for students to do their first two years of college without debt while they figure out their major and or path. Maybe even with night classes so they can work during the day in the industry they want to be in. Oh wait…. Community college does this already.

Would you spend $25,000 to save $50,000? I would, and that's the math behind parking lot maintenance. You spend a little money each year maintaining your lot, and it lasts 2-3x longer, saving a lot of money in the long run by not having to repave.

Heard a great story the other day about the importance of how our employees view their job- Two janitors at a hospital. Both were asked what their job entails. The first janitor said, “My job is to clean the floor, empty trash and keep my assigned area clean.” The second janitor said, “I help patients heal faster, raise their spirits and make their stay as comfortable as possible.” Frame of reference is so important.

Learning how to sell just paid off big! I took a $1,000 quote to a $50,000 quote by pitching my maintenance plan! They initially just wanted sweeping, but after educating him on the benefits of routine maintenance, he asked me to submit a quote for crack sealing, seal coating, striping and sweeping! Previously I would have not said anything about the condition of his lot and just spoke about the sweeping, because that's what he wanted, but after watching a video by @AlexHormozi talking about conviction, and how you have an obligation to help people who genuinely need your services, I brought up how there are a ton of cracks, how his lot will only get worse with time, becoming more expensive to fix every year, and he asked me to change the quote. Lets go!

Live from a gas station in San Diego, where I paid $5.99 per gallon to fill up with foreign gasoline. @SullyCNBC While we wait for the gasoline pipeline(s), we should spend the next 3 years discussing Sacramento’s degrowth campaign.

Importing that much fuel is costing them. Also an environmental risk with all that shipping. Midwest to California pipeline(s) are going to be the big energy story for the state over the next 12-24 months.

Question for my peeps here: You fly a candidate in for a final interview and pick up the bill for everything (obvi) and there isn’t a thank you email that comes back in 3 business days after interview. 1️⃣ No fly zone (move on, basic decorum is necessary) Or 2️⃣ Keep moving forward (stop being old and stodgy) Comment your answer

Technology is amazing. Flying home from Boston today and it’s been a day of delays. There was no way I was going to make my connecting flights. I rebooked my connecting flights on my Delta app, at 35,000 feet. Home by midnight is better than a hotel room.

Tonight’s stop: The Union Bar at Union Oyster House, America’s oldest continuously operating restaurant. Old wood, crowded bar, and the feeling that a few Founding Fathers might still be arguing in the corner. This restaurant in Boston has been serving guests since 1826.

@TS_Secrets Good for you for taking the time to visit her. You’re right about how few families are engaged in their families lives. It does make the feel of these places very depressing.

Visited my mom at rehab today. Grateful she’s getting help, but man… those places can feel heavy. What struck me the most wasn’t the equipment or the therapy rooms. It was how few families were there visiting. Lots of people sitting alone. One thing is also clear though… those places print money. Makes you think why people get into these as investments.

One thing becomes abundantly clear as you get older. You cannot outrun your past. If you have stuff to deal with, deal with it and be done with it. Otherwise it rears its ugly head 20 years later.

Employers keep telling me they can't find qualified tradespeople. I keep asking the same thing. What are you doing to build them? Here's what most don't know. The federal government will actually pay you to train your own workforce. WIOA grants fund the training. OJT reimbursements pay back up to 50% to 75% of a new hire's wages while they're still learning on the job. IWT funds help you upskill the people you already have before you lose them to someone paying more. You build the academy. The grants offset the cost. You get the first pick of every graduate. Everyone else who completes it still gets certified and lands somewhere else. You lose nothing. You gain everything. The pipeline problem has a funded solution. Most employers just haven't gone looking for it.
