@VPrasadMDMPH I am all for moving away from profit-motive health care. There will be a dip in innovations perhaps (tho less than pharma claims, perhaps). But will hAVE to eliminate obscene medical training costs. You can’t charge a student 600k for education and then pay them half

Interesting thought experiment Without health insurance actually American medicine would collapse. No one would pay such high prices. So doctors salaries would come down, and spending on all medical products would come down drastically. Whole world would be different.
Chad Chubb, CFP®, TPCP®, CSLP®@WealthKeel

Can we all agree that the health insurance industry is the middleman that no one needs? Patients hate them, Docs hate them, staff hate them...literally everyone. Our 3-year-old fell off monkey bars about two months ago (PSA don't use the damn monkey bars!), broken arm and elbow, needed surgery with pins. So not minor, but not major. Monthly premium (family of 5): $1,851 ($22,212/yr)- Mentally, you think, wow, that must be a great plan. Well, it's decent but not great. Keep reading. Here are the numbers: Current out-of-pocket in 2023: $8,554. Once everything is completed, we will likely hit the out-of-pocket max of $9,100. (PSA: This is why this number is so significant, it is your worst case! Always know this number when you pick a health plan.) No other major events as a family, currently billed $64,109 in 2023. We will spend ~$31,000 in premiums and out-of-pocket costs in 2023. I sit here as these bills come in and think to myself, who the hell can afford these things anymore?!? While I thank God every day that we will be able to pay this and move on, so many others would be wrecked here for a while, maybe a lifetime. There has to be a better way. This is insane.

@MonicaGandhi9 Monica— with regard to the new NIH trials just announced, how would you rec a patient enroll? Are they all done onsite at NIH? Are there any tips for getting on the list? Or are they NIH sponsored/funded but done by docs at other hosps or offices?

PAXLOVID: Thread below this tweet summarizes trials for Paxlovid: EPIC HR (high risk); EPIC SR (standard risk); EPIC PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) Were waiting for EPIC-SR final results - just came out. No benefit if standard risk (not older, not on immunosuppressants)
Jake Scott, MD@jakescottMD

The results from the only randomized controlled trial that studied Paxlovid in vaccinated people (EPIC-SR) are finally available: no evidence that it provides any benefit. Good thing immune protection against serious illness has remained so robust.

@helloguille @nicknorwitz I think 0% great yoghurt is great. Doesn’t taste like “skim milk” and saturated animal fats still carry risks. I see so many patients struggling with diet/weight related illness that I can’t imagine vilifying O% yogurt of all things!

@TheTriggerMan10 @LisaannerexLisa @BenjaminAbella @Zyreb2 All 3 of these vaccines not ONE has the virus in it to train your body like every other vaccine? Legitimate question if you have sources that’s help. Hard to understand the science of fighting something your body doesn’t know about yet.

Eye doc said to me as my 14 yo sat down for her exam after my 11 yo, “Mom you better guard your daughters” We’ve been taught to just be okay with this sort of thing, but it’s not. Though I’d normally just take it, my girls do not have to. I’m going to say something. Stay tuned.

Randi Weingartner didn't ask for unnecessary 100k hepa filter retrofitting, etc etc bc she thought she would get it and be able to reopen school. She asked for it because she knew she wouldn't get it so she could continue prolonged closure, which was her goal. The more.... 1/3

@Noahpinion Partner is v common usage in Australia. People also say “de facto”, meaning you live together and plan to stay together but not married. It’s super hot.

One of the best things I ever did for professional advancement was to get together with a group of girlfriends and normalize talking about our accomplishments. We called this “lady bragging.”

Studies like this from Denmark (high testing rate and national data) are valuable because observational studies from countries like the US are not good for this kind of question. Garbage in=garbage out. They find no increase in diabetes risk in kids after Covid. 🧵 for details.

NO! The healthcare system doesn't need more pseudoscience. NO! Naturopathy will not alleviate system concerns. Naturopathy is built on magical thinking. Most of their practices (e.g., homeopathy, IV vitamin therapy, detoxes, etc) NOT supported by science. Disappointing to see @TheHillTimes print this noise. ht @HealthLawAdamH cc @DrJenGunter @picardonhealth @UbakaOgbogu
