Combining elements of city building with elements of ecomony always seemed to be a recipe for success, if done right. Think of games like Sim City, the undisputed godfather of the genre, where you start with nothing and slowly but surely grow your city - or your empire in the case of another epic classic from the golden era: Anno 1602 (created by Max Design in 1998).
It became a massive surprise blockbuster, both commercially and critically acclaimed. The game kickstarted what eventually turned into a franchise that is still alive today with its most recent release, Anno 117, last year.
So, what makes Anno so great? For its time it showed incredible attention to detail: excellent graphics (for a business//strategy sim), the genre-typical and wonderful music, and above all a highly addictive โjust one more minuteโ gameplay - seeing your empire grow through colonization and trade. Military aspects exist in Anno, but they are secondary at best.
Other games such as Sim City or The Settlers had a similar vibe: the slow and steady progress, and sometimes just zooming out and looking at what you have created. One of the best games ever - one that just felt full of love for the small things and full of soul.

Monitoring the situation is so hot right now.
So I made my own.
Yes it's made using free APIs so the feeds take a little while to update. Yes the Grok analysis is rate limited to avoid rinsing my API credits. Yes, the event markers on the surface of the globe can be a bit janky at times due to how the filters read the RSS news feeds. Yes, it's not optimised for mobile yet (thoon).

Working on a lending dashboard with Claude so that it can eventually run my entire book. Currently it:
Recommends me loans to take over/offer on across all platforms if they match my risk profile
Shows me all my interest accruing in real time
Tells me what collections have good rates
Flags bad/risky loans
Still lots of features to add/refine but don't think it'll take much iteration until I can actually hand over the keys
