@TheQuench149 At least not in english, maybe in other language some group at least tried in good faith, but in english you have a triple combo of 'translations' by pretty bad traslator, literal schizo and MTL, on top of already insanely hard to convey in other language work
English

@firstclasscrook Is there a good translation of cross channel?
English

@romancoxy Yeah, not arguing with it or saying that you can't criticize TL prose, just asking to have self-awareness that prose of all things changes the most and calling it *Author*'s prose reading a translation is unfair. If this came as anti-translation, was not the intention
English

@firstclasscrook In not-native language, the weight of the translation is as big as the original vision of the author. The good translator could heighten the weak points of the work, and vice versa. Should the points be heightened? Well, that's another topic tbh
English

@NateHoobs Every single post about it I saw recently brought TL as an example of prose being bad/repetitive, if someone says so based on japanese text, then good for them and my original post is not targeted at them anyway if it's not obvious from wording. With being late I can live fine
English

@firstclasscrook Huh? The people that said Ryukishi's prose was bad in the first place were the ones that learned Japanese? This is a decade long discussion. You are too late for this
English

People have already said those things about Ryukishi's prose in original and translated English. What are people even arguing about?
Inazuma@firstclasscrook
I agree that Ryuukishi prose is mediocre and serviceable at best, but basing it on english TL is pretty stupid. Like for english readers Cross channel is unreadable dogshit and Fata Morgana is a great prose example, which would sound insane to anyone reading original text
English

@nyannyathotep It's literally the single example I can think of where japanese original VN reads better in english, what opinion is held by 'japanese readership' you can bring to them instead
English

@firstclasscrook I'm sure it's unreadable dogshit (which is your initial juxtaposition), which I'm sure is an opinion held by all of its Japanese readership.
English

@nyannyathotep I'm literally bringing it as an example of good prose in translation compared to more amateurish in original text though?
English

@firstclasscrook The unsolicited seethe average JOP holds towards Fata Morgana will never not be funny.
English

@firstclasscrook When people tried to say the same about nasu its like what are we even talking about.
English

@formlessbore Yeah, Ragnarok is the least consistent in quality light VN I read tbh, it redeems itself to some extent like 5 hours till the end, but it's a huge downgrade from first two games in pretty much everything
English

@firstclasscrook Honestly, I find this team's appeal the most when they begin by copying a little 😭 I have Ragnarok on pause right now because of how much I'm disliking it and the opening felt quite unique and fresh, whereas I've enjoyed Vendetta the most out of the trilogy thus far...
English

@formlessbore Good job reading it as first jp VN though, really impressive
English

@formlessbore Yeah, I can agree that it goes beyond Masada copy in last routes and many of that became a foundation for Silverio. But I already read Silverio too, so even if it's not fair for ZI, that predates it, I couldn't help but feel that I've seen it before...
English

@kuronosenkoku I have a final route left, but not that much lol, Kurashiki and especially Takahama can write cool chuuni, but Silverio or Vermilion are miles better
English

@FE1_BEST_FE MIDI music is great too, but I kinda wish there were more variety for a very long game
English

@FE1_BEST_FE Also I liked most of the side characters we meet throughout the game and even some random NPCs can say something interesting sometime, I feel this game have one of the best writing in Megaten in general (if you count it as it's part)
