@torquespeak The post-2017 VED system isn't supposed to be fair to the next owner - it's supposed to discourage the initial purchase of the vehicle

@friztbox Neither point has any bearing whatsoever on what a fair VED price should be for the next owner.

Make it make sense! Range SVR well over 300g/km CO2: cheapest annual VED out of the lot. Discounted pre-2001 regs mean a 4.1 V8 Cadillac kicking out ~350g/km is in the middle. Sub-200g/km runabout that's only asking £495 will cost you £410 to tax for a year. FFS.

@CRAZEEEEgoat @KieraDiss Should have dumped the eeproms on the device for the current in use TEA before handing it back. The force likely wouldn't report it if it were missing for such a short period of time, everyone would continue none the wiser.

One of our calamitous police SERGEANTS left his walkie talkie behind after a traffic stop. Lucky they’d pulled an honest driver.

@RSdriver00 @torquespeak The Mondeo is a victim of being near the start of the first tax system that penalised CO2 emissions, with an engine generation that dated from before we cared about CO2 emissions. There was a major push to make cleaner engines once this system came in, and it worked well.

@but_cyclists Less expensive Less climate impact Less traffic impact Less stressful (most of the time) More exercise More fun (in summer at least) And of course faster, at least when the slower road users are kind enough to move out of the way for the faster ones 🚲

I can't agree with this. Smoking may be a grim habit, but what an adult does to their own body is their own choice. This sets a nasty precedent. Should the state have opinions on other areas of lifestyle, or diet, as well? It's none of their business. The link is about legislation that's finished drafting in the UK to ban cigarettes for all people born after 2008. bbc.com/news/articles/…

@anon_opin TV and movie productions don't use real tobacco in cigarettes. They are usually herbal cigarettes.

I don't enjoy the smell of vapes but they're better than cigarette smoke. We can now stop growing and processing tobacco. A small exception should be made for TV and cinema productions, which will need tobacco products for actors portraying 20th century people.

@Emma_A_Webb Smoking is fucking disgusting and last time I checked, non smokers didn't have the choice to avoid breathing in the disgusting smoke from cigarettes. This only benefits everyone.

@friztbox @CriticisingUK @ColeFusionHQ No, they are getting it in exchange for some of their benefits, which they get for free. They don't end up with a car because of working for it, it's because of the generosity of others whose tax money is taken to pay for it

Motability covers 815,000 people and until July comes with a 20,000 mile annual allowance, nearly three times the UK average. Surely cutting it to 10,000 and removing free EU breakdown cover is a devastating assault on the vulnerable high-mileage driver.

@ColeFusionHQ 20k annual allowance what the fuck when I tried to insure my little car that I’ve paid for with my full time job I was told 13k miles a year was too high 😂 and people are getting nearly double for fucking free???

@FietserGlasgow @but_cyclists The problem is road traffic law is primarily written for motorists and doesn't very well take into account how dynamic bicycles are and how they move differently. Here's a four way crossroads that I can legally cross on red, because at no point am I crossing the stop line.

@DavidHorne @bardne53756 @railnigel Wait, they are using fluorescent tubes? On trains built in 2019? Despite a ban on the sale of fluorescent tubes coming in just four years later?

@bardne53756 @railnigel In an ideal world, we’d have the warmer lighting in the whole train. But in 2019 we took the decision we did because we were mindful of the amount of waste that would be created if we replaced all of the brand new 4000k light tubes.

I used the Arnold Clark chargers at Sighthill, Edinburgh today. Started off at 56% (147 miles), 10 mins & £5.05 later I have added 28 miles which is now showing 66% (175 miles of range). 🚘🔋 Worth noting that the charging speed didn’t go above 59kW.
