@MaxFRobespierre @MrMBrown when I invest I can lose all of my savings. When I have a job I can't lose my savings. Risks with investing are far higher than employment. You also want to incentivise people to start businesses and invest as those companies grow and employ more people etc.

@freddienew this is like saying we will allow the internet, but you can't access it on your own computer. You have to travel to a library to use it so someone can peer over your shoulder and keep your safe. Insane overreach and lack of understanding of utterly basic things

Idiotic statements like this are made when policy is prepared by those who do not understand technology, and lack the intellectual curiosity to try. I’m far from a defender of stablecoins (for me they retain all the disadvantages of fiat currencies, not least of which being the peg to a currency controlled by a central bank). But I recognise at least that they exist, and that people use them, and the technology has certain properties. At the same time, I try very hard not to publicly call out people for rank stupidity, even when (like the @bankofengland here) they clearly deserve it. Saying ‘self hosted wallets will not be permitted under the UK’s stablecoin regime’ is a statement of such monumental, such overweening, stupidity, that it is hard to formulate a sensible response. Perhaps there is no point in trying. Let them say this, and then let everyone in the UK simply continue to use their ‘self-hosted wallets’ (ie ‘wallets’) without paying them a second’s more attention.

@Timccopeland I imagine we'll have new sports invented that are robot vs robot rather than robots competing in traditional human sports. Unless we can anthropomorphise the robots well enough that viewers have a strong attachment to an individual one.

I remember when my girlfriend first logged into mumsnet. She would read out stories of men mildly annoying their wives and I would try to guess what the consensus advice was. Almost every single time it was to leave him. Even for the most minor of infractions, leaving a dirty plate on the counter, forgetting to take the bin out, working too late or spending too much time gaming with friends, divorce, separation, “he clearly does not respect you” was the trend. Unhappy people giving advice that would lead to unhappiness for others. It was WILD as an outsider looking in.

@happysubstack @HarryCantein @levelsio You absolutely can. Your GP gets the results, always. In 20 years, I never once had an issue with getting the results from the receptionist across 5 different practices. Online only been using fairly recently and also with no issues

I was never able to do blood tests when I asked for it in Netherlands Doctor asked "why? you're not sick?" Then I tried in Portugal (at Germano de Sousa) but they never picked up the phone or when they did were so slow and unhelpful I gave up, they also require a doctor prescription btw The first place I could get my blood tested was Thailand in 2018, I just walked into Bumrungrad and asked for it, amazing experience Last few years we just fly to Brazil and do it here, the nurse comes to your home/hotel at 8am and takes your blood, same or next day results online I find it funny I keep having to fly out of Western Europe to do blood tests, they make it impossibly hard to do them Which is retarded

@levelsio Who is your doctor in Portugal who can prescribe all the tests you want to do?

@Bounette2009 @HarryCantein @levelsio You have to fight them infinitely to get them to be uploaded if you have chronic issues and certain hospital tests done. I have frequent tests done and I’ve not had a result uploaded since 2024 despite PALS complaints. It just depends which department you see.

Demis is the greatest thing to happen to to the UK in the last 30 years
Seb Johnson@SebJohnsonUK

BREAKING: Google DeepMind is doubling down on London and expanding into a HUGE new office in King's Cross. @demishassabis has just announced Platform 37 - a new office and hub for AI innovation next to King’s Cross station. The name is a nod to “Move 37,” a pivotal play made by AlphaGo in the legendary 2016 match against Go world champion Lee Sae Dol. They are also launching "The AI Exchange", a new public space dedicated to deepening understanding of AI. The impact Demis has had on UK tech and AI cannot be understated. It's AMAZING to see him and team double down and create a new landmark site of the London tech scene.

we should launch a vampire attack on money with a NTAG213/215/216 NFC chip + ERC-5791 + ERC-6551, anyone can create a physical coin backed with real crypto money - easy to claim & easy to top-up it's pretty much the same cost to manufacture this than what the states spend with metal to make a coin crypto should be more aggressive on the onboarding side

My information consumption is now 1/4 X, 1/4 podcast interviews of the smartest practitioners, 1/4 talking to the leading AI models, and 1/4 reading old books. The opportunity cost of anything else is far too high, and rising daily.
