@jasonbrennan logging back in to say that this is a really cool idea and a well-written post. i like that the constraints on something otherwise massive makes this achievable and understandable (with a language and UI framework that don’t scream “browser engine”.)

i haven’t serviced my 50 year old kenmore domestic sewing machine in the 15 years that i’ve owned it. it’s built like a tank, but was getting noisy and skipping stitches. it’s sooo quiet now after oiling according to the manual. it’ll outlive me.

@YYCTKW @peterloliver I agree that people will always want to come downtown. I strongly disagree that people want to drive though. Nobody _wants_ to drive! They _choose_ to drive to get somewhere when the city is built in a way that prioritizes vehicles above everything else.

@peterloliver @RedMileCSAG @BikeBikeYYC @JyotiGondek @CWalcottYYC I support the Green Line LRT and always have. Parking has yet to return because people have yet to fully return, but they will. Also, it is inevitable that Calgary's population will increase and many will buy electric vehicles, thus there will be demand for vehicle parking.

after years of going to some random unix timestamp website when i need some sample value, i realized i could take the same approach to use alfred with a hotkey (ctrl+shift+d) and `date -u +"%Y-%m-%dT%H:%M:%SZ" | tr -d ‘\n’`.

i’ve been using uuidgen | pbcopy for years now and just realized that this is trivial to do in alfred with a hotkey (i picked ^+U) and it’ll also automatically paste in the active app, which is a million times better.

@soffes our vanagon has ko2s and we don’t do any off roading but I’ve been impressed with them in the snow and slush during the winter. the open diff limits traction sometimes. i was worried about noise, and they’re a tiny bit louder than before, but it’s not bad.

@RebeccaSlatkin our 1yo rescued dog and 6/13yo rescued cats have established boundaries now. we have 4 of those pet gates with the smaller gate that the cats can go through when they need space. also allows us to keep the cat food and litter in rooms that the dog can't get to.

All the shelters around here are overrun with animals. I want to adopt a cat but I have 2 dogs (2 and 6 months.) Is it too late to add a cat? I'm open to a period of discomfort but I certainly don't want World War III. Tips welcome.
