Going to figuratively drop down on my knees & beg anyone that enjoys my music to share my demo reel around. I simply need more music work! I don’t just do game soundtracks - I’ve also done a feature film, documentary, ghost writing, bespoke work for art projects. Check me out!!

Happy 30th to #residentevil . I was way too young when I first played it and quickly became obsessed. Made a little tribute piece of music to the early games. This track sounds like a mix of 1 and 2…hence the clips from 1.5 #gamedev #vgm

@wesleytypes @RE_Games @CapcomUSA_ I don’t prefer it to the original Resident Evil (1996) but it’s close. Doesn’t quite the nail the same level of dread as the first, and the puzzles aren’t as good. But it plays great and I love the A/B storyline with the two characters.

REVIEW: Resident Evil 2 (1998) Better than the first game in every way. Of all the Resident Evil games, this is the one I was looking forward to playing the most. It's the introduction of fan favorite protagonist Leon Kennedy, the first implementation of a stalker type enemy, and it's considered by many to be the shining example of the series' survival horror roots before exploring a more action-oriented style of gameplay. In many ways, the franchise's signature formula and identity was established here, and because of that I had a feeling it would leave a strong impression on me. As it turns out, I'm relieved to report that Resident Evil 2 met my expectations handily, and has proven to be a refinement of everything I loved about its predecessor. The Raccoon City Police Department is a much tighter and more satisfying Rubik's Cube than the Spencer Mansion, being much easier to traverse and including many more lightly scripted moments to fill it with life. Every step or two back could quickly be turned into a step forward. The station is so well-designed that I felt like I was completely zoned in during every play session as I systematically located items, gathered supplies, and put all the pieces together. In scenario A, this feeling is especially strong. Scenario B adds some new elements that shake up your stride, but that only serves to elevate the entire experience. I played as Claire Redfield first (Scenario A) and Leon Kennedy second (Scenario B), which is widely considered the canon order of events. As far as I understand, scenarios A and B (first playthrough and second playthrough) determine the bosses, item locations, route through the building, and certain areas you're required to go to. Your choice of character determines the story beats, the focus on one of two important side characters, and some specific weapons available exclusively to Claire or Leon. Those are the things you're mixing together when you choose who to play as and when. Lastly, there's a "zapping" system that makes choices in Scenario A trickled down into Scenario B which leads to a great feeling of connectivity between Claire and Leon as you progress through the game. Despite operating as separate playthroughs, the scenarios don't feel like you're playing the same game twice. It's clearly one game from two different perspectives that are equally important. I imagine a proper translation of this system to the modern era would be to incorporate all the events from both scenarios into a single playthrough and have the player split time between each character; or, keep it relatively the same but clearly advertise each scenario as an "episode" that's necessary for full completion. Either way, I find it hard to imagine Resident Evil 2 without this system and it was definitely my favorite feature in the whole game. So far in my experience, this is the quintessential Resident Evil game. It does everything the first game did only better. More interesting characters, a better location (from a gameplay perspective), flashy FMV cutscenes, a stronger story, increased tension, and improved gameplay mechanics. Capcom nailed it in their second outing with the franchise, it's everything a sequel should be. I can't think of anything meaningful I would change and I already look forward to playing it again. 5/5 ⭐

@theinkyshortone It’s an amazing game in its own right and I don’t think is ‘replaced’ by the remake like some people like to say. It’s definitely pretty hard if you play as Chris.

@SchetzRivera @lastchalice @RE_Games @CapcomUSA_ This doesn’t get mentioned enough! The crazy colour palette of the mansion is Resident Evil 1 adds to so much of its unease. Just also feels more creative than the ‘realism’ of every room looking sepia.

@lastchalice @RE_Games @CapcomUSA_ The one thing I love about the original more than the remake is how vibrant the mansion is, the colors are very interesting! Sadly the remake has almost a sepia color grade, I prefer the original for this. The way even a colorful ambient can be intimidating and mysterious is cool

I just finished the original 1996 Resident Evil for the first time. It’s remarkable just how well this game holds up. Everything that established the series as a classic is here right from the beginning. Typewriters, limited inventory, optional characters, jump scares, atmospheric music, save rooms, you name it. All of the elements were in place right from the very first release. It’s very impressive. There’s a wonderful simplicity to the narrative that still manages to capture your interest and build far more than is shown within your minds eye. The characters are often one note and corny, but it’s because of this that they become so lovable. The mansion is a relentlessly obscure and interesting place that leaves you constantly telling yourself “maybe I’ll check just one more door before I quit for the night” and it ends up being several. It’s common to hear both inside and out of the hardcore Resident Evil community that the remake replaces the original entirely. If there was ever a time when that statement was true, it’s probably here. Having said that, there’s a certain charm to the original release that cannot be found in the 2002 counterpart. The live action cutscenes themselves are a gift from God, let alone the 90’s inventory and menus. I place a high importance on maintaining the history of this art form we all enjoy, and for that I think there will always be a place for the 1996 original. A classic in the truest sense of the word.

@lastchalice @CapcomUSA_ @RE_Games Well, except RE1 Remake. I'll hold that that remake is not just the gold standard for remakes, but also far better than its source material. Let's not forget, RE2 was RE1s "remake' and it succeeded in almost every way

A message I want sent straight to Capcom: I am currently playing the OG Resident Evil trilogy for the very first time. Old graphics, tank controls and all. They’re some of the best games I’ve ever played. Remakes will never replace the classics. Respect your history, we do.
