@SardineTruther Ok, fair point, my apologies! My hackles go up at the use of the word intuitive in the context of interface design, the way we all make our way through the world is one of trial and error, there is no such thing as an initiative interface, just one that is retrospectively obvious

I agree that they have been trained on a different kind of interface. But a big part of my main points if you read on is that most enterprise software is not designed with this interface in mind, meaning their background with general computing has given them fewer experential opportunities to attune and apply intuitive thinking. I don't think that's stupid.

A foray in to boomerposting, but one of the more notable issues I'm experiencing with juniors in the workplace is relatively poor computer literacy. Younger Gen Z employees seem to be less intuitive when navigating a desktop environment comparative to any software that resembles a mobile interface.

I spent 10 days walking around Beijing and Shanghai, massive cities of 25 million people each. I visited the centers and the margins alike. And I can tell you this. In London in a single day I see more instances of human misery on any given stretch of high street than I saw during my whole time in both cities combined. More homelessness, more begging, more malnutrition, more disease... more people totally denied human dignity. And what is just as depressing is that for so many people in the West their immediate reaction is to assume that in Beijing and Shanghai the immiserated are somehow whisked away. People's minds are so addled by neoliberal capitalism that they cannot imagine that a society could take even the most *basic* steps to ensure that people have access to the goods and services necessary for survival.

Well, Donald Trump has managed to poke the Polar Bear in the eye. Not only has the President upended the Canadian election by pushing the left-leaning Liberals into the lead heading into today’s election, but the locals are cancelling their southbound vacations, unloading their Florida and Arizona properties, and engaging in an unprecedented voluntary boycott of U.S. exports into the country. It is rare for Canada to ever make it to the front page of the Wall Street Journal, but that is exactly what happened today with “Canadians Stiff-Arm U.S. Brands.” (wsj.com/world/americas…) In my various chat lines with U.S. friends and contacts, this only elicits guffaws and derisions of laughter. That is, until I show them the data revealing that Canadians buy $500 billion of American goods and services annually. As that evaporates, the cost to the U.S. economy comes to a non-trivial 2% of GDP. As everyone focuses on China, it is tiny but angry Canada that could well emerge as the trading partner that tips the U.S. economy into a recession that nobody I know voted for back on November 5th.

In response to a survey of motorists that go through Richmond Park, the Royal Parks have come up with a Code of Conduct for Cyclists, to help ensure Richmond Park is a safe place for everyone that uses the park. The survey was carried out by going from car to car in all of the car parks, and posed the question: What do you think causes the biggest challenge to road safety in Richmond Park? a) Cyclists b) Bicycles c) Bicycle riders d) All of the above Results were encouraging, and the trustees agreed with the findings, and published a Code of Conduct for Cyclists. Howard Cocks, spokeswoman for the Motoring Lobby of Motoring Lobbyists, wholeheartedly agreed with the survey, saying "They've hit this spot on. It's clear that cyclists that are causing all the problems in Richmond Park, and this War on Motorists has got to stop".
