@kirtonpete @NJM71 So if Thatcher encouraged people to pay for their pensions and she left office 36 years ago, why is this pension stuff still an issue ? Is it because people don't want to take responsibility and plan for their own retirement ?

@NJM71 When I started work in the early 70’s the only people I knew who had other than the state pension were civil servants who were paid little but had the pension. Thatcher forecast the shortfall and encouraged people to pay for their pension. Brown taxed the funds!!

WASPI "Young people, listen up! The future of the state pension is rocky, you won't get a triple lock at 68 or older but nevermind that - please do a short vid saying why I should get more cash for failing to take responsibility for my own retirement planning. Thanks!"

That's tragic. I hope this waspi episode has encouraged more people to understand their state pension better, and find out what they will get and when. The risk of the waspi campaign being successful was an incentive to remain ignorant, which would have such a negative impact on so many people's retirements. Sadly the campaign and its leaders, never embraced the opportunity to educate their members, because their priority was their support, for signatures, letters, or money, and that was often generated through outrage, not education.

Can we all just put this #waspi thing to bed now? The earliest 50s born women have been receiving their state pensions for 15 years now! And the youngest ones (who were only in their early 30s when the law to equalise women's state pension age with men's) are now all receiving a state pension. I am glad the government stuck to their position, given the costs of the compensation, and how it would be so unfair on those who have to pay for it, and already have state pension ages themselves of 67 or 68 bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Hi Louise. I am 49 Yes, I think I will get a state pension No, I don't think it will be means tested (it may have NI added though) It's 67 today, and I think it will go to 68 (as proposed) but not higher Happy to expand on any of those if it helps. For waspi context. I remember telling 50s born women in late 90s that their state pension age would increase to 65 between 2010 and 2020. 10 or 20 years into the next millennium still felt a long way off at the time, but one of my strongest memories is how often people's response was 'yeah if we get anything at all by then' Not that thinking that made them want to save more, just that negative nature so many of us can have. Roll forward nearly 30 years, and triple lock, has meant that state pension has never been higher, and never cost us more. They were wrong. So whilst I understand why young people today have similar fears (especially given rising cost of triple lock, that we must end asap) I am confident it affects too many people, to ever see it not there. Just look at the political fall out from this waspi issue, which is relatively small compared to not getting a state pension at all. Politicians are too scared to go after triple lock, so I don't think they'd dare go after state pensions itself.

@dontdelay @StewartSteven David, obviously not sure of your age but do you think you will get SP, do you think it will be means tested and do you think it will be later than 68 ?

@StewartSteven @Louisecdtv I’ve paid NI every year since I was 18. I’m fortunate to earn well, so it means I’ve paid a lot more NI than most people. But when I get my state pension it will still be a benefit

@StewartSteven @dontdelay if you have a job that pays money then you decide where to put your money. If people choose to live pay cheque to pay cheque that is their choice, life is about choices, own your choices and don't expect ppl to bail you out

@Louisecdtv @dontdelay It is luck your lucky enough to have a job paying you enough to put that money aside for your pension as I've said some people don't get paid enough to do that

@StewartSteven @dontdelay it's not luck , it's called awareness and planning, the first thing that gets paid is pension, before mortgage, before food, it's known as pay yourself first

@StewartSteven @dontdelay Some of us are making plans for our retirement that work on the premise that we receive no state pension at all. Private pensions have been around for a very long time, more people should have used them.

@jjbiggsy what a ridiculous comment. I never got any letters in fact I had to write to DWP Newcastle back in 2012. I was too busy working to see TV adverts or newspapers and no one in their 30s talked about SP . People starting career in 1960-70s very different options by time in 50ss

The Waspi women had 30 years notice that they wouldn't be getting state pension at 60 years old, I think that's long enough.

bbc.co.uk/news/articles/… Not wishing to be entirely pedantic, when they refer to greater London , does that include the city of London ? Does Greater London run up to the M25 or is there another boundary ? #lifequestions

A Miami-based American Airlines Boeing 737 captain has posted their salary pay statement on reddit, leaving many people speechless. The pilot’s total year to date compensation was $458K, with the hourly pay being $360+ (flight hours only). Some comments suggest the pilot isn’t even top of earning potential - with widebody pilots earning around 24% higher and pay increases through to 2027 under their current contract.
