People using your gender as an insult online is so bland, like okay??? What does that have to do with anything? "Oh you are trans?" "Oh you don't want to be this?" "Oh you are a man?" So what?!? Who actually cares!!! Be who you want to be!!

@nalinrajput23 Along with other things mentioned here, Linus has been using Fedora for quite a long time at this point.

Linus Torvalds still runs Fedora with GNOME, not Arch. Now I’m genuinely curious what makes him stick with that choice?

@nimrag_art @qtnx_ usually you just press y or n once when installing software, unless you decide to refresh the repos beforehand. There may be some exceptions, but this is the rule. for example, installing firefox:

@libadwaita @qtnx_ you press next because it's giving you options while you install. It's no different than a command line install making you type y or n multiple times during install.

my hottest take is the linux model of package managing is insane in the modern age projects like firefox should not be handled by random package maintainers for every distro, it makes sense to download from the mozilla website imo why linux will never take off on the desktop

@nimrag_art @qtnx_ [2/2] It's also just nicer being able to update everything at once rather than doing so at runtime. Oftentimes Windows apps don't completely uninstall when you uninstall them, or they pester you with a reason to uninstall.

@nimrag_art @qtnx_ [1/2] Installing uses a wizard, which you'll click "next" multiple times just to install rather than typing "y" once. Gets worse when installing multiple apps at a time. Updating apps like that requires the app to have an updater, otherwise it will need to be done manually.

Over the span of my life I questioned my gender many times and was unhappy with how I felt. Eventually I came to accept who I was and decided to just live life without seeing myself as one thing. I don’t want to be confined to any gender norms. I am me and that’s all that matters

@IamAroke There are some common tools (mostly command line) that run on both, but the difference comes down to the OS-level toolkits and frameworks they use. While they are both Unix-like, there's been decades of divergence between their common ancestor.

If macOS and Linux are both Unix-based, why don't macOS apps run on Linux? 🤔

@CyberRacheal > Based on MS-DOS Only standalone Windows releases and Windows 9.X. Future versions are based on Windows NT. > Based on UNIX Unix-like would be a more appropriate term here > UNIX-based Applies to Mac OS X 10.0 and newer, earlier versions were their own thing.
