Maybe you should start investigating real crimes like rape gangs and government corruption instead of hiding around corners with your gay little vans catching people going to work.

@mickydoos @kezia_noble I live in Scotland which abandoned the Custodian helmet before I was born. The baseball cap is now everywhere, and it can be hard to distinguish Police from a traffic warden or a council apparatchik. There are many apparatchiks in Glasgow. It devalues and diminishes the Office.

🚨 80yr old woman stabbed to death in southeast London. Police were alerted after reports of a man with a knife. Emergency crews found the woman outside her home in Shooters Hill, and was taken to hospital but died of her injuries. Another man was threatened but not attacked.

@gary_h10453 @kezia_noble Most response teams are far too small to permit it. The only foot patrol I do is for Friday/Saturday night time economy (and I quite enjoy it tbh)

@rg4cgyqknh @kezia_noble Only some forces allow baseball caps for non PSU/firearms unit duties (I think they look awful with regular uniform and I'm glad my force don't use them)

@TheTopCatTony1 @kezia_noble Because traffic wardens were employees of the police. When parking matters were decriminalised (ie made civil offences), it was for... Wait for it... Civil enforcement officers.

@Wheeeel @kezia_noble Their vests are slimmer than ours because the emphasis is on ballistic protection whilst ours is against bladed threats. Kevlar only would be slimmer but there needs to be a steel mesh to protect against blades.

@Lamplighter_UK @kezia_noble Custodians are specifically for foot patrol. Flat caps for mobile patrol. Baseball caps are for PSU duties. I'm not Met but I make sure I wear the correct headwear when I'm out and about.

Yes 💯 especially in central london where there is no consistency, some wearing no caps, some wearing caps, very few wearing a bobby’s helmet which tourists want to see and also makes them more visible if people want to ask for help. We have a variety of of people who are not police wearing similar paramilitary style clothing including security and police community support officers

@kezia_noble Have you ever worn a police tunic? They look great but assively impractical for modern day policing. There's a reason they're for ceremonial purposes only now.

6 armed British police officers arrested a man named Lee yesterday at Manchester Airport as he returned to the UK from a vacation. The arrest was made due to someone reporting that they were offended by a Facebook post Lee had made about immigration

No, and it shouldn’t matter. Unless there is a risk to the wider public or an acute flight risk, such an arrest is highly disproportionate. It is also not like he can destroy the evidence, as the Facebook post was already identified and archived by the authorities (or they could have just taken his phone at the airport and then asked him to turn up at his nearest police station for an interview).

@TerrorismGuy @visegrad24 You're referring to a voluntary attendance interview. You cannot "summons" someone to attend a police station for a *voluntary interview*. It's possible the officer in charge attempted to arrange an interview but they refused, or were uncontactable A summons is for court.

What I don’t get is why they couldn’t just send him a formal summons via mail so he can turn up at a police station with a solicitor at a given date. Like we can argue about free speech all day, but is the benefit of such a heavy handed arrest for an ultimately non-violent ‘crime’?

@muttonshunter It'll likely be a combined NIE and sergeants course. I'm led to believe that the sergeants exam and the NIE are fairly similar

A firefighter doesn’t talk to the public with hands in pockets, a paramedic doesn’t, a lollipop lady doesn’t, a military serviceman doesn’t. So what gives public servants like plod the green light to assume it’s okay for them to do it? Is it some kind of inbred arrogance that they are taught, are they showing their inner contempt for the public? Or are they just slobs who think that etiquette and showing respect don’t apply to them?
