@sizewellc @yimbyalliance Odd post. What has a £40bn nuclear power station that will wipe out local tourism for a decade and split communities in half got to do with building more houses?

I am sorry to hear that the India Club, London, is to close permanently in September. As the son of one of its founders, I lament the passing of an institution that served so many Indians (and not only Indians) for nearly three-quarters of a century. For many students, journalists and travellers, it was a home away from home, offering simple and good quality Indian food at affordable prices as well as a convivial atmosphere to meet and maintain friendships.
As the picture shows, I was there this summer with my sister (we are standing in front of photos of my father attending club events in the early 1950s) and am sad to realise that that was my last visit, since I will not be returning to London this year. Om Shanti!

@AlexHartley93 Was sitting nearby. While everyone else was faffing about the drop, he calmly picked up the ball at his feet and threw it back 🕶️

@henrywinter "Air analysis" is an apt description of what the BBC's pundits serve up. MOTD (and Football Focus) are painful to watch live. BBC had an open goal to reset and missed.

@sizewellc @beisgovuk @Jacob_Rees_Mogg @Policy_Exchange Expect another U-turn when the taxpayer gets wind they will be on the hook for the 40bn build cost of Sizewell C via increased electricity bills. theguardian.com/environment/20…
English

💬 “Nuclear power is just fundamental. There’s no way we can get to net zero, or even have an intelligent electricity strategy, without nuclear.”
Secretary of State for @beisgovuk @Jacob_Rees_Mogg noting the crucial role of #nuclear in today’s @Policy_Exchange panel #CPC22

English

@BorisJohnson It would also cost £30-40bn with taxpayers liable, take 15+ years to build, be based on EPR technology that doesn’t work and is out of date today, backed by bankrupt EDF, built on an eroding site, and ruin @RSPBMinsmere. But don‘t let details get in the way of your legacy.
English

@KwasiKwarteng New large nuclear is unsustainable and cripplingly expensive. The two proposed EPR reactors at #SizewellC are based on flawed, outdated technology pushed by bankrupt EDF and China. Focus instead on development of new small modular reactors developed by Rolls Royce @ZacGoldsmith

@theroyalparks Please close Richmond park to through traffic. Without ANPR, that means only allowing access to the nearest car park. The park being peaceful and safe was genuinely the best thing about Lockdown 1.

Love Richmond Park right now - quiet, peaceful and no danger or fumes from motor traffic @theroyalparks @matbono @sarahjolney1 #richmondpark #cleanair

As we enter Lockdown 3, the parks will remain open for everyone and we strongly urge adherence to the government's guidelines while doing so. You can see more here: bit.ly/3pVjSEZ

@munirawilson Why? That is a mistake, surely, when you compare with multiple other boroughs staying open with much higher infection rates per capita.

If you love East Suffolk, or if you think spending 10 years creating the biggest construction site in Europe to build a massive seaside nuclear plant is NOT the most efficient way to create renewable energy and help climate change, please sign this. stopsizewellcpetition.com

@BBCSimonJack @markbabbage Will you also apply the same investigative rigour to the serious environmental concerns that @RSPBMinsmere , @StopSizewellC, @SayNo2SizewellC and others have raised?

@BBCSimonJack A desperately under researched and one sided piece. Does the BBC care about the environment?Sizewell will be Europe’s largest construction site right on top of an SSSI - it will be an ecological, economic and mental health disaster @RSPBMinsmere @StopSizewellC @ZacGoldsmith

@richmondsociety @LBRUT How about permanently raising and widening pavements instead? Our local retailers need shoppers to feel safe to encourage footfall @AlexanderEhmann
English

Richmond Society urges @LBRuT to remove #socialdistancing barriers at critical pinch points in George Street. Extra footpath width is seldom used, difference in levels between pavement and road create a trip hazard, and cyclists are forced to move into the traffic stream.

@twickerman @RichmondCycling @StevoLaughton @russell1871 @Bigdai100 @SocialSunman @SolOnWheels To be fair it was packed this morning, hundreds of cyclists out (incl. me). Tough balance for @theroyalparks - I could live with the old 7-10, 4-7 if it was extended to weekends as long as cars do not return. Park is an oasis without traffic and fumes.
