@betterstreetskc @juliacambridge1 @LBHF As I argued yesterday, at Cabinet. I want public transport connectivity. I was arguing that could be funded by the £1bn Structures Fund, which would then have given politicians & the public choice over which modes to permit (beyond buses, walking & cycling). Instead H&F gave up
English

@AlexanderEhmann @juliacambridge1 @LBHF Happy to agree that’s one reading - but not the only and perhaps not the most obvious given the £128m seems to be the amount that also ends the need for expensive yearly maintenance. Also - buses are one thing, cars are another. Do you want pre 2019 (ie mostly cars)? Or bus only?
English

Spoke to @LBHF Cabinet, calling for £300m bid to Structures Fund. Sadly, clear H&F don’t care about Richmond residents’ plight, have given up on public transport & won’t acknowledge decades of underinvestment.
We’ll keep pushing for a Better Bridge!

If you think that Mr Farage’s recent tantrum comes with too hefty a price tag - join me in signing up to @JamesHenryChard excellent petition - requesting Mr Farage picks up the cheque…

E-bikes - with pedal assist with speed & power limited by law - are legal and a great way to travel around London.
Illegal electric motorbikes - with much more power, speed & weight and with an auto throttle - are a dangerous menace.
Good to see the police taking action.

@betterstreetskc @juliacambridge1 @LBHF £128m is to deal with most pressing structural issues. My reading of the report is that in order to ensure the bridge has a proper lifespan, £250m will need to be spent (allowing for pedestrian and cyclist use). So the loss of a public transport offering is for want of £50m
English

@AlexanderEhmann @juliacambridge1 @LBHF Fair challenge. The report does reference £250m - but then says £128m is the amount needed. £172m is still a lot… (There does need to be a public transport solution here - do you think the solutions proposed are worth considering?)
English

Discomfort with scrutiny of @LBHF proposals was palpable. Despite trying to ‘roll the pitch’ on the woes of bridge inheritance, it remains fact H&F Council failed to properly maintain Hammersmith Bridge for DECADES. That costs are now ££££Ms is “chickens coming home to roost”.
English

@betterstreetskc @juliacambridge1 @LBHF If you read the report, you’ll see H&F concede that structural works for a non-motorised bridge use are £250m, so the differential between buses using it and not is £50m not £299m
English

@juliacambridge1 @AlexanderEhmann @LBHF Money is finite. For £300m you could:
- A. get cars back to a bridge, bringing back congestion, pollution, noise and danger; or
- B. Spend £1m on restoring bridge travel for those that can’t 🚶🏾♂️ 🚲 and £299m for [choose from health, education, housing, public transport etc]
English

@ChiefRocka10 @OpenChiswickW4 @juliacambridge1 @LBHF @TRLibDems Sorry. Until there is a viable public transport offering that resolves disconnection for those who arent able to cycle or walk - the job is simply, not done.
English

@OpenChiswickW4 @juliacambridge1 @LBHF @TRLibDems @AlexanderEhmann Well said. The bridge should not be used by motor vehicles

..have said Hammersmith Bridges full restoration should be eligible for the £1 billion Structures Fund.
Tonight @LBHF say nah we're not going bother.

@OpenChiswickW4 @juliacambridge1 @LBHF @TRLibDems You seem to have no concern for the public transport isolation that this lack of ambition entails. Not everyone can walk or cycle (important and useful though such provision is). I am merely arguing for a ‘Better Bridge’ whereas you (and LBHF) seem to be frightened of it.
English

@juliacambridge1 @LBHF @TRLibDems @AlexanderEhmann Did they?
Or did they say that the bridge is a good candidate for the Strictures Fund. Which it is and that is why LBHF have applied for the funding required to make it a sustainable bridge for walking, wheeling and cycling?
Time to move on and embrace a better future.

@AlexanderEhmann @LBHF As someone who attended, along with many Cllrs representing their wards, I was staggered by the Cabinet's inability to separate @LBHF finances from the Structures Fund. It was a simple ask: be more ambitious in your bid to the fund.

Latest Hammersmith Bridge update shows a ‘poverty of ambition’, says Cllr @AlexanderEhmann
We’ll continue to make the case for a 'Better Bridge' that improves connectivity for everyone, including those who cannot walk or cycle over #HammersmithBridge.

@AlexanderEhmann @LBHF Hardly ‘trapped in aspic’
Thousands of people are using it, now, every day
But/and a very well thought out proposal for public transport has been proposed
English

I’m really concerned to hear @LBHF propose to scale-back their bid to the Structures Fund for Hammersmith Bridge. We need the ambition to get public transport reinstated on the bridge - not to to trap in aspic what we have today. Thats why I have asked to address H&F’s Cabinet.
English

@L_Campelli @LBHF @LBRUT You can always expect this Council to strive for constant improvement in all services. In terms of any concession contribution, (recognising over £30m in-year cuts from this Labour Gov’t) - it will support ongoing delivery of exisiting services, rather than new spend.
English

This is the typical cut and paste response i hear from you but regardless no concrete response.
Fleet size would be even bigger should you have allowed double providers.
Prices may be slightly lower, but user experience was not taken into account.
Which core services can we expect to see an improvement in from the money this deal brings in?
