@WalksWallstreet Think about how much money you can make stealing garbage cans though? They're like $150 each and it only takes a few minutes to steal one $150 x 4 garbage cans/hour x 40 hours/week x 52 weeks/year =~ $250k/year

Ehh I disagree with that take Lots of people posting the $100k is nothing in NYC stuff is just ego cope If you were 25 years old, knocking down $100,000 a year in New York City to post on Instagram that that’s a home run. You pay $800 a month in rent to live with roommates in Bushwick You can actually save a lot of money and put yourself in a fantastic financial position It’s awesome!!

Just had my 14yo daughter go to the amusement park all day with 3 friends and one of the dads (whom I hadn’t met before) chaperoning the whole time I have however met the parents of two of the other kids, been to their houses and at bday parties with the parents and hosted the kids for day trips myself so I know they’re all good kids But I still hadn’t ever met the dad who was chaperoning so of course that had to go well at pickup or it wasn’t gonna happen This guy lays out all the ground rules for me that he has with the kids (they won’t be out of his sight, except for when they go to the. Barroom and they’ll take a buddy as well and he’ll be outside waiting) and then looks me dead in the eyes and says “I love my kids, and I know your daughter isn’t my kid, but I will still kill for her” He goes on to tell me he’s a combat vet etc, has eyes in the back of his head As a father, I couldn’t have been put at more ease That’s how you reassure a parent that their child will be cared for 🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡

@spikesguides Planning for the next 100 years is not possible in a system as volatile as ours. If we get to a point where they feasibly can plan that far ahead, we won't be America anymore.

There Is No "250-Year Rule" A lot of people have been tossing around the claim "empires only last 250 years, thus the US is finished" Those people are horribly mistaken. In 1976, historian John Glubb analyzed the lifespan of empires in history and found they only lasted about 250 years on average. The problem is that Glubb's criteria for what constituted an empire was that the nation was a dominant power as well as it had to exist 'long enough,' about 10 generations. He excluded data that didn't fit his own preconceived notion. Glubb didn't include Napoleonic France, the Dutch golden age, the Third Reich, Alexander the Great's empire, the Swedish empire, or the Mongolian empire because they didn't fit his criteria for time. The US hasn't been a dominant power for even 150 years. Even if we take an absurd approach and say that in 1898, during the Spanish American war, our empire began, we still are approaching 130 years. Nowhere close to his estimate. With that said, the US is at an inflection point right now. Not because of this arbitrary cyclical system but because we are on the cusp of a debt cycle ending. Debt cycles are either harbingers of economic and political doom or the bastions of a golden age. We are at the moment where we either revitalize ourselves and become the great empire that stands for another 100 years or we are going to decline and become more the Great Britain, a global power, but not remotely as powerful and rich as we once were while someone else eats our lunch. We aren't at the end, but a lot of chickens are coming home to roost and our leaders need to thread the needle carefully if they want to preserve this great nation. Our leaders need to be planning for the next 100 years instead of 4.

@spikesguides @IndSocEnjoyer glubb explicitly divided Rome between the republic and the empire. both were around 250 yrs. his intent was to show how empires fall organically, obviously foreign invasions or competition cutting them short is outside the scope

@SkullPiler Poor guy. I suppose I should be more grateful that I can socialize "relatively" normally for the most part. (Although the effort required to do so is enormous and if I was to describe the entire process to a person they would probably think I'm insane or some sort of pyscho.)

When you live in the third world, you realize how nobody trusts each other, even for basic things 💀 You live here long enough and you develop that mentality also, at least partially Just today I went to the local corner store for some beer in Tepito of Mexico City 🇲🇽 As an alcoholic I’ve gone there every single day for almost 3 months, buying liquor or beer I’m a regular and spend probably around 4000 to 6000 pesos a month More than what some Mexicans spend on rent for a room in CDMX I'm the King of Gentrifying Liquor Stores 💰 But during my earliest visits to this one store, the owner would get sometimes tense whenever I bought those 1.2 Liter beer bottles: “You sure you going to bring this back right? Really really sure?” Almost like he's low key accusing me of stealing his bottles Like yeah bro. I ain't hoarding empty beer bottles. Who would do that?? Lmao 🤣 Over time he became a tiny more friendly. I only became a regular here instead of other stores because they’re very transparent with prices marked on most products and they ring them up for you too No third world funky monkey pricing like in other stores here. And he also sells my favorite Mexican beer: Leon 🍺 But today he got tense again. I brought back the beer bottle from last night and handed him the little paper that says I’m owed 10 pesos. Immediately he goes “this ain’t ours!” because the paper doesn’t look like what they normally give customers. I insisted it was. “Who gave this to you? His name?” “No se su nombre…. El negro.” Meaning the black guy they got working here We went back and forth with him arguing the beer definitely didn’t come from his store until he finally snapped 👇 “Are you trying to steal from me???” Brah what lmao. You really think I, as a regular who spends 4000 to 6000 here per month, is trying to hustle you for 10 pesos or 50 cents? I’m an esteemed expat from America, not a broke Mexican. I almost felt insulted 😤 Just days ago the same worker, El Negro, gave me the wrong change as I wrote about on Twitter Too much, not less. I insisted he did and he was confused (I don’t think he speaks Spanish well). So no, I ain’t out here stealing 10 pesos from small businesses lmao I almost walked right there because it's just 10 pesos but I wasn't about to be called a liar and a thief “Check the cameras bro. I bought this around 11 or 12 last night" I said He pulled his phone out and started looking 📱 After 10 minutes of standing there in a standoff over a measly 50 cents, he took the ticket and handed me the 10 pesos. I guess he found the footage of me walking in or whatever. Didn't even apologize for accusing me of some scam over 10 pesos lol I ain’t mad tho. It’s just funny how in the third world locals get so tense over pennies 🤑 And while this is a pretty small and irrelevant example, I could go on about how low trusting so many locals can be. From irrelevant to more important examples. And while it was probably just a easy mistake, I don’t know if I’ll keep spending my money at that same store Not only do they have a worker handing out fake receipts, but also accusing regulars of theft who spend hundreds of dollars over 50 cents? This is just one incident among others where the dude was freaking out over beer bottles I've seen him interrogate others rudely on other occasions over if "they'll return the bottle? Are you sure you will?" In all my 9 years in Mexico, I’ve never been to another store, even in other Mexican ghettos, where they treat selling beer like an illegal drug deal. Most other stores end up kissing my ass and being nice to me once I become a regular Ah well 🚬

@FischerKing64 hobo culture was a thing during great depression, 0.5% of population at one point, they even had their own hobo code-sobriety, work, etc. many stories of hobo men working a season at some small town, beloved by kids and locals, only to move on without even a goodbye one day.

I also spent time in China recently And my conclusion is the west has already lost, and is to arrogant to even know it America can save itself by dumping Israel and becoming a decent global citizen and join BRICS Otherwise Israel will finish sucking it dry and move onto its next target in India

I recently spent a month in Asia, including 10 days in China, where I met with senior policy makers in several countries, and I found that over the past few months, there has been a big shift in the world order. I share my perspective in my latest article.  As always, I welcome your questions and thoughts.

This is exactly why I prioritize financial independence. Your bosses and executives literally don't care about you. Most of them would rather spend time working than with their family. Good for them. That's what made them successful professionally. But my end game isn't to be the absolute best in my industry. I'm an individual contributor, not a CEO. I don't own the company. My end game is financial independence so I can spend more time with my wife and kids doing what I want, when I want, while giving them a head start when they grow up. Spending 2 hours a day in rush hour traffic coming home with cortisol through the roof won't get me there. The beauty of financial independence is this: if I was called to RTO today, I'd literally say no. I don't need this job and I can find another one. But if I was tied up with a $1.5M mortgage in Spring Lake, a Range Rover, and a golf club membership, I'd have to obey whatever order came in.

As an American living in Europe with young kids, you always run into other American families visiting... ...in almost every case, I'm asked "what do you do?" in the context of "why are you living here?" I always laugh because the question has become a meme (only Americans ask this because we are secularly Puritan-coded). ...and the most subtly devastating thing I can reply with is "I basically semi-retired" and we moved here to slow down and raise our kids... live a more adventurous life. It's so radical and absurd to most ears that it's first assumed to be a joke... They end up being a mix of angry, stunned, and intensely curious... yet hold back the urge to pry. Ends up being awkward because suddenly the most common ice-breaking conversation topic is ripped off the board... your career. Sad.
