@kmh @AeroBigMike Naturally, it's a development program. Also, I was talking about cost and cadence, also, not once did I mention Starship.

So by 2028, NASA is going to cancel a sure thing (SLS) at 2.2bil a pop to instead fund another rocket that’ll cost… 3bil (or up to 3.6bil in 2030). Noting that developing a new launch system to replace SLS will cost more than just using SLS, which will drop in price over time.
Marcia Smith@SpcPlcyOnline

NASA budget req cancels SLS and Orion after Artemis III and creates a "Commercial Moon and Mars Infrastructure and Transportation" line item with $864 M in FY26, $825 M in FY27, $2.3 B in FY28, $3 B in FY29 and $3.6 B in FY30.

@AeroBigMike As if anything could be worse than SLS.

@AeroBigMike Factor in launch cost and cadence and you get your answer.

@nilonlino The only way a new replacement system can be developed and launched & be cheaper than just using SLS, what’s available right now- Is for the dev cost & production cost of the new replacement to be less than 2.2bil; what SLS alone costs.

@AeroBigMike Why do you act like spending 2.2 billion on top of 23 billion is the same as spending 3 billion on top of 6 billion? Also, why do you act as if they're offering the same capabilities?

@nilonlino Where did I say SLS cost that much to develop? Strawman much?

@kmh @AeroBigMike That is what was supposed to be happening, however it is hard to keep it up when inflation continually makes your rocket more expensive and you keep having delays and cost overruns.

@AeroBigMike @AstroPnoy SLS love to pretend that this is some big gotcha but always fail to remember that the only reason it's true is because of SLS in the first place.

@AstroPnoy Many seem to be under the impression that by the time A4 rolls around that magically a new SHLV will be ready or even more ludicrously- a new lunar capsule. Neither is happening before 2030.

@deltaIV9250 Interstellar requires you not to think too hard about things like their having a craft that can make multiple SSTO without refueling (let alone having any apparent fuel tanks).

The Martian gets way less attention than Interstellar, which is a damn shame because it's better in many ways and is arguably far more realistic while also being fun and whimsy

@badchoripan @ARealNeighbor @buckadeath Also the idea that the allies were merely a sideshow in the war is a complete lie, not even considering the lend lease but also how the US production massively outnumbered the USSR one in nearly every single metric.

@badchoripan @ARealNeighbor @buckadeath And that's not counting all the tanks, artillery, food, telephone cables, planes, fuel, raw materials, etc which definitely played a big role aswell.

@badchoripan @ARealNeighbor @buckadeath A non aggression pact with a secret clause to split up Poland yes. Also that deal which the UK and France "rejected" was actually because of Poland, since it would have allowed the soviets to put troops inside Poland, something which was rejected by them.
