Listening to The Hillbilly Thomists this afternoon, I had the thought that Catholics of many varieties probably are into their music, and what if we all got together to drink some bourbon and listen to bluegrass and hang out and not try to "solve" anything or engage in "dialogue"

Was pleasantly surprised to find Guru Dutt's passport in the British Museum, at the pinnacle of the South Asia collection in the post-independence section. Issued in 1950, he would have been no more than 25 here, with bright eyes gazing ahead to an incredible decade…laajawab ho!

Fascinating article on Hobbes' involvement in the Bermuda company, and how that influenced his political thought. Hobbes, Cavendish, and the Bermuda Company | The Historical Journal | Cambridge Core - bit.ly/3NfBPf3

@_John_Handel in his defense, i think it’s a debate where the historiographical stakes seem big and clear, so not a bad way to introduce historical arguments and writing! But yeah maybe a lot for first-years lol

@orsidd I love Rishad, but a few years into college teaching I'm realizing how wild it was that we had to read all of that lol

@_John_Handel lol that totally sounds like something Rishad would do! And yeah this book intervenes in that debate in a really compelling way with a lot of new evidence. Def recommend!

@orsidd So many flashbacks to Rishad forcing our freshman writing class to read all of the Karen Leonard and JF Richards debate about financing the Mughal Empire lol. Now I am excited to read this book!

Does anyone have recommendations for novels that could work well in a seminar on global history? (Sea of Poppies is a possibility, but I feel it’s a bit too long)
