@MikeFellman I've also been thinking a lot about how to help nudge history students towards leveraging their knowledge to policy work. It's tough because it's not a 1-1 game "History + Simple Lesson= Policy." Not how it works! This, on the other hand, is a good model to show them

My paper with JW Mason is finally out.
The upshot is that very high financing costs/hurdle rates materially constrain housing production. Zoning reforms are a piece of the puzzle, but if you want mass building, you need to pull financing levers.

@MikeFellman A lot, the basics are that it is the first thing I've seen that begins to get us beyond the "de-regulate" vs "rent control debate," uses history to open up alternative policy proposals, and confronts the issues in state + municipal govt that make this even harder to solve

In order for a country to provide a dominant global currency, it needs to make it available in size outside its borders. It can do so by net acquiring EITHER assets OR goods from RoW, which wud mean different signs on basic accounting identities. Tx 4 ur attention to this matter.

I agree, and so does Newport, from what I can tell. Between the “other university” and that recent François Furstenberg piece, the status quo is bleak. Still, I spent all day today writing, and I still have control of my own classroom. So maybe…outposts of concentration?
