Bittensor's biggest subnet receives $52M a year in TAO emissions. It generates $2.4M in actual revenue. Without the subsidy, it would cost more than AWS.

Fair correction on the emission figure. The paper used stale data and should have pulled live numbers from Taostats.
That said, the corrected math tells a more pointed story, not a weaker one. At the time Chutes self-reported $2.4M in annualized revenue, it was receiving approximately $79M annualized in emission subsidies. A 33:1 ratio. The most recent revenue estimate (March 2026) is $1.3M, while emissions have collapsed to near zero. The ratio technically improved, but only because the subsidy cratered 95%, not because revenue grew.
