@xenogothic I remember an argument with someone in like 2016 where I was claiming that phone addiction was actually a boon for literacy because social media is "primarily textual", quite possibly the stupidest thing I've ever believed

Nevada’s secretary of state, seeing high number of rejected ballots in Clark and Washoe, says one of the biggest issues is that the signatures of younger voters don’t always match what’s on their driver’s licenses: “It’s mostly the fact that young people don’t have signatures these days. And when they did register to vote through the automatic voter registration process, they signed a digital pad at D.M.V., and that became their license signature.” nytimes.com/live/2024/11/0…

Nate Silver is gonna be so embarrassed if it turns out that one of the candidates had a 90% chance of winning

I think the midwit meme is a big part of how people like Elon rationalize things. Yes they're in coalition with the dumbest people in the world, but they're separate from those people, super geniuses who just happened to come to the same conclusions

white people do wonderful things with cheese. Don't get me wrong. But people with negro genotypes are generally lactose intolerant. Eliminating cheese from our diets will allow for optimal genetic expression. Hope that helps.

the way religious people talk to each other is fascinating. Heard this on the radio: Husband: "thinking of quitting my job" Wife: "is God calling you to leave, or are you running away?" (she's asking him a technical question, it has an objective answer)

@CJHandmer What I realized after having a kid is that parenthood gets a bad press because the downsides are very obvious and easy to explain, while the benefits are almost impossible to communicate to anyone who hasn't experienced them

In retrospect I drastically underestimated how much I would enjoy children, and had I been correctly calibrated I would likely have had more and sooner. Now I'm unsure I'll be physically capable by the time grandchildren come.
