Can anyone enlighten me on what GBRX is? A new abbreviation to me. Serious query, no Elon Musk jokes please.

@SteveWhiteRail @RAIL Blimey. Can't you just put a Class 37 on the other end, pull it back into the siding, re-rail, add skates if necessary and haul it away? Cutting it up on site might be easier though.

@AndyRoden1 Just been reading in @Modern_Railways about @trailersecond comments on the WoE discrete electrification. Would either of you see the electrification to Salisbury as part of an alternative electrified freight route to Southampton Docks for the container traffic?

@trailersecond Is that on Great Western? Just joined it at Yate and again shocked at how much metal there is on the electric works!!

A signal post. Ever wonder why railways are so expensive?

@PacerClara Under BR the role of thumb was that 5 vehicles was the break point where loco haulage is cheaper. When I worked for Porterbrook I updated the calculation and got just over 5, so in event 6. But it is not as simple as that, operational convenience and reliability apply as well.

Right I have an entirely unresearched theory that may be completely wrong but I want to put it out there and you can yell at me if you want. Loco hauled passenger trains are now pretty rare in the UK, but are seemingly still *somewhat* common in mainland Europe. [1/]

@LordOrk @LevelBoarding @LouHaigh You raise an interesting point. Do passengers (unprompted) mention level boarding in passenger surveys? Do passenger surveys include level boarding in their list of features for passengers to prioritise?

@Captain_Deltic @RailwayQueen @InnoTrans I was a bit intimidated by one very attractive woman who I thought might just refer me to an engineer, but she turned out to be very helpful and knowledgeable, needing no backup. If you really want to pull people in at Innotrans you need seats, the ultimate object of desire.

@RailwayQueen @InnoTrans Isn't that a sexist assumption Daisy? They could all be junior engineers, product managers or linguists dressed in the company house colours to be readily identifiable on the busy stand.

So HS2 has confirmed that its new coaches will now have two doors per side instead of the one specified. To quote the former Met-Camm MD Bryan Ronan, "variation orders turn a net loss into a gross profit".
