Strikingly little movement at both places: planes standing about for 24hrs at Khmeimim. No movement of kit on quays at Tartus. The warships are outside port - but loitering nearby outside range of a rogue mortar. But - above all - the air traffic just isn't there for an evac.

@Samfr There is no legal definition of an independent special school (though there are independent special schools approved under section 41 of the CFA 2014 - which brings with it extra duties on the schools in question).

People will be aware I'm generally in favour of the private school tax policy but I think this would be a sensible (and v low cost) adjustment.

Just got a written answer which leaves open a chink of light for special schools which the government is about to hit with business rates. Govt "will consider" it. That's better than a flat no, but government should not be hitting schools full of disabled kids with extra tax.

Germany won't be targeted because of medium-range weapons deployed on its territory; it's always been a Russian target.
The sooner we accept this, the sooner we can discuss appropriate policy solutions.

@xtophercook The leaked documents also indicate that Russia has the capability to carry tactical nuclear weapons on surface ships despite a 1991 deal with the US to remove them.
Russia rehearsed this in June – but the documents indicate they have been doing this for much longer.
