Golf is an endlessly interesting game. Today’s round was pretty much the complete opposite of yesterday’s. Yesterday I shot one of my better scores but didn’t feel like I played that well. Today I shot a 93 and felt like I played much better than the score suggests. A few major differences: 1) My highs were much higher, but my lows were much lower. I had one hole where I put two balls in the water. I topped my 5W and 5I more times than I did yesterday. But when I didn’t completely boof a shot, I hit some of the purest shots I’ve hit yet. I hit a push-draw 5W that carried 250 and reached a 510-yard par 5 in two. My short irons felt solid and I hit some great pitch shots. 2) My mentality was completely different. I adjusted my pre-round routine and went in with zero swing thoughts. I warmed up based purely on feel, figured out my shot shape for the day, and committed to it. I was far more committed to every shot. Bad shots didn’t bother me. I’d hit one, accept it, and immediately start thinking about the next shot. 3) I got paired with great people. They were talkative, supportive, and made the round fly by. They kept my mood up, made the day more enjoyable, and even invited me to play with them again. Round stats and a highlight 👇
