Feel like it’s about time I started actually doing something with this account besides lurking and snarky responses. I’m going to post my work on miniature painting and model kits. I don’t exactly have much of an audience but if nothing else I can use it to look back on my work

@Agent_Drew @AceRumble It’s just weird when prequel critics use examples that nobody would even pay attention to when talking about bad dialogue.

It’s not just that the Star Wars prequel haters dislike the films, it’s that they are so blinded by their hatred of it that their criticisms of the films don’t even make any sense half the time, or not even reasons to criticize a film.

@avidfilm @AceRumble There’s occasionally some good dialogue, but it’s few and far in between with lines like “At least we’re flying half a ship” or “They must be dead by now. Destroy what’s left of them!” I think Lucas is a great idea guy. But his dialogue is nearly grade school level

@Agent_Drew @AceRumble For one thing, the prequels actually used a lot of scale models. The Force Awakens used way more digital effects. Also, there are tons of memorable dialogue in the prequels.

@avidfilm @AceRumble How does bland dialogue or over reliance on digital effects make no sense? Just because you don’t agree with a criticism doesn’t somehow invalidate it

@Agent_Drew @AceRumble That’s exactly how I feel about most of the prequel haters to be honest. Most of the arguments aren’t specific, but when they are, they make no sense. Like complaining there are too many Jedi, or that Qui Gon should have killed Watto

The thing is, a whole generation didn’t hate the Star Wars prequels. I was 18 when Phantom Menace came out, saw it opening night with a few friends from student res, and then rewatched it at least three or four times in the theatre over the next month or so. Pretty much everyone saw this movie (and EpII & III). Guys and girls. Nerds and casuals. Many went multiple times (the box office numbers prove this). The merch sold through the roof, every magazine featured cover stories with the cast, most casual fans thought Jar Jar was funny while the Star Wars nerds were obsessed with the tech behind the character. Girls loved Padme’s fashion while straight guys loved Portman. The online fandom was hyperactive with fan theories, fan art, etc with a very clear even split between the male/female demos. Fan and general public reaction was insanely positive. This particular scene became ICONIC. 98% of the negativity came from the professional film critics. TPM wasn’t perfect by any means but the media definitely tried to push the message that it was a disaster, Jake Lloyd sucked, and that Jar Jar was offensive and racist. This weird gaslighting that it was the fans who were negative and toxic is just current media trying to do damage control for just how negative they were at the time.

This is actually dumb as hell. Sony really sat in a meeting and said “yeah let’s raise the price of the PlayStation 5” like we’re not already getting fucked by EVERYTHING else 💀 Console been out for years and instead of it getting cheaper like it’s supposed to, they said nah let’s run it UP?? We already paying $70 a game, subscriptions, controllers and NOW the console price goes up too?? Corporate Greed.
