@givemetuesday You can't have sex with Ryan Gosling? Coming from someone with a SLUT neck collar, that's rather surprising.

Fuck off Quebec. Honestly, the hostility created by the French sense of entitlement actually negatively impacts the majority of Canadians and excludes them from positions of power. You can get a CBC panelist to sneer at us all you want, but our country is weaker because of this nonsense. Produce an elite goalie and then we can entertain your absurd language laws, until then the country has serious problems to deal with so calm down and stop undermining the country. Sincerely, English speaking Canadians

@Naiyodub @DanielBordmanOG Euh, non? En plus, Air Can est tellement rendu de la marde, son niveau de français doit être du même niveau que son sens des affaires. Bonne affaire qu'y crisse son camp.

@DanielBordmanOG Most French canadians find this to be total BS. We dont care if he speaks english or french, most of us speak both. Some fanatics are, once again, in charge and this is the result :(

@venaliter @Francis_Urq Dude, Air Can is worse than ever lol When it was a crown corporation, it was a black hole of money but at least it was a good airline to fly on. Now the shareholders get everything and we have to pay for our lunch. What's next, we'll have to pay for the kerosene too?

@Francis_Urq Not sure your metaphor holds up. English is the language of aviation. But 1 of the pilots was French, and Canada is a bilingual country, so a translation should have been provided. Rosseau has done an objectively great job at Air Canada, turning it from a black hole to profitable

Hot take that will piss off everyone: If you are upset at this, imagine a scenario where a francophone CEO of Suncor (eg) gave a message of condolence to workers killed at a job site in rural Alberta solely in French. People would have hit the roof. This is the correct decision

@ezralevant Those 600 hours of French classes were used as nap times lol His mother is a Franco, his wife is a Franco, spent 20 years living in North Americas biggest Franco city and still can't utter a complete sentence? That guy is incompetent, good riddance.

Understand what this means. They will fire a world-class CEO because he's not perfectly bilingual -- despite 600 hours of taking French classes. If they would do that to him, imagine what they would do to you. I'm talking to you, Alberta.

@moultano The argument was a decades long ambivalence vs nuclear and Fukushima. The difference with other countries that had taken similar steps towards denucluarisation after 2011 was that Germany went all the way, while countries like Sweden stopped and reversed course in time.

@fried_kale @nxd1979 Yeahhh, that's simply not the case. We know very well that you need to practise a language to get good. Also, outside of Montréal, there's not many places where Québécois speak English well. That post sounds like bullshit.

@nxd1979 Lmao I was an anglophone Canadian living in Quebec for three years. Trust me, they were not “almost always delighted” with my French. They simply looked at me like I was retarded and patiently waited for me to stop talking so they could respond back in English

At root of why I’m considered so CONTROVERSIAL to some in Canada is that I have very strong opinions on two odd Canadian issues that tend to be very triggering to some: the stupidity of Canada’s ties to the British monarchy, and the undemocratic nature of official bilingualism.

@AndreaMicieli "Peak narcissism" is to ask for some French in a 3min45 condolences speech to commemorate a native French speaker pilot that went to live in Ontario to learn English for a year? See guys? Even when the French Canadians are the only ones that make an effort, we still get shat on

Dimitris Soudas 🇨🇦⚜️🇬🇷☦️ 13.12.1943
In the case of Air Canada’s CEO, we have now been waiting for twenty years. He lives in Quebec. His wife is francophone. He leads a company that is subject to the Official Languages Act. Five years ago, in Montreal, he delivered a speech entirely in English and promised he would learn French. More than 400 hours of tutoring later, he is still at “bonjour” and “merci.” I believe we have been patient. Very patient. But at some point, respect for a language, for the law, and for the country cannot be optional. It must be real, concrete, and upheld.
Jacqui Budden@JacquiDelaney

@cselley @DimitrisSoudas @Harry__Faulkner For anyone who feels so strongly about this being inappropriate, it couldn’t have waited a few days? Weeks? A month?

@CTVMontreal The pilot from Québec spent 1 year in Ontario to learn English, it's likely his family doesn't speak English. The condolences message was 4 1/2 minutes long and the AIR CANADA CEO couldn't make the effort to speak French a bit? Yeah, he should be shamed for that.

Reads like an Onion satire of what has become of the Canadian bureaucratic state. A fatal airline accident, and the Minister of Transport’a response is to focus on the language of the CEO’s condolence message. (Technical note for Ottawa: anyone can now instantly generate an audio or text translation of the video statement.)

For anyone who still hasn't grasped why nuclear power plants are the stupidest idea imaginable: New nuclear power plants cost up to 49 cents per kilowatt-hour in Europe. Solar power costs between 3 and 6 cents. Thats 16 times more expensive electricity For those now dreaming of small power plants (SMR): SMRs produce five to 30 times more nuclear waste than large reactors, and nuclear waste is a massive cost driver. Professor Dr. Lesch calls the idea of using old nuclear waste as fuel "a wonderful fairy tale that has yet to come true anywhere in the world." For all now claiming storage is no cost driver take a look what Germany had to pay and all other countries with nuclear energy generation must pay for decommissioning and storing nuclear facilities and waste in the future:

Unlike nuclear which produces a small, highly contained waste stream that is tracked and stored safely for the long term, wind turbines create massive composite blades that currently have no widely adopted recycling solution. Most end up in landfills, taking up space for decades and while other parts like steel and copper can be recycled, the sheer volume of materials needed for turbines (especially for large wind farms) creates a significant environmental burden. Wind turbines can also pose a threat to wildlife like birds and bats that sometimes will collide with the spinning blades, leading to injury or death. Nuclear waste is challenging but concentrated and engineered to be isolated, whereas wind turbine disposal is diffuse, growing and largely unsolved. Also, smoke does NOT come from a cooling tower like that. Good morning, you’re already the radiophobe of the day, congrats.☢️
