I work a full time job and code at night. I plan to build something in my spare time. I am starting from scratch with very limited resources and plan to document my progress. This is day 1 of my ML/back end tools journey.

@frozenaesthetic Texas has been part of 6 different countries including Texas as a country itself. There is no other state like Texas, it is mostly a pride thing.

This is my vague consensus of some US states as a British person New York: Big city, very diverse and I remember it has yellow taxis Kentucky: Fried chicken, redneck land Wyoming: Nothing happens there, it's boring and barely anyone remembers it exists Florida: Insane people, retirement homes Minnesota: ???? Delaware: I feel like it's very industrial Texas: Cowboys, loud and excitable people Louisiana: More chicken Hawaii: Obama was born there, beautiful place with volcanoes and I believe an indigenous language Pennsylvania: Talks like bish bash bosh, extremely American and enjoyable accent West Virginia: Country Roads take me home to the place that I belong Alabama: Incest and very very Christian Nevada: Desert Iowa: ???? Oklahoma: I think JD Vance is from there and it had a big emo/scene thing California: Sun sun sun, very liberal and world famous oranges

being a good writer and being a capable scientist often revolves around having the gift of crystallization of clear ideas. Everyone I look up to shares this.

My cousin has a very odd look that could be described as having a big doofy head. he also has a minor speech issue and a thick new york accent. He comes across as a tad crazy to some. But he’s attractive in other ways, and to some people very attractive. Hes 6’4”. Has a college degree, some connections in NYC. One time this dude at a bar misinterpreted the things my cousin was saying which were actually quite clever, but he being drunk, thinking my cousin was “foreign” and tried to “rescue” a girl from him. The girl was my cousins wife who made absolutely no indication to anyone she needed help from anyone let alone this drunk moron. so he ended up in jail for randomly assaulting an above average couple at a bar. The convo about this guy reminds me of that for some reason.

Am I in another reality because this guy is very attractive imo? Smooth clear skin, tall, well dressed, smart glasses, cheerful demeanour, strong build, nice face? I’d be flattered if he liked me
Westside L.A. Guy@WestsideLAGuy

This is successful founder of Airtable Howie Liu & wife (she’s 3 years older). They have a great life together, new baby, and I’m sure he’s a loyal provider husband & dad. But she’s not genuinely sexually & romantically attracted to him. To deny this reality is cope.

@LutheranNerd @MOOOOrion @LokiJulianus Some people who support ubi are basically. My ideas would be more like a respurce dividend. In any case, similar solutions will need to be put in place because overall resources are going to increase but traditional wage income will have serious issues.

I've seen some people say: “once AI can do all the work for us [editor's note: an unlikely future], what will we do?” I find this attitude totally mysterious.

@craigzLiszt English Spanish French Mandarin Chinese 5th is harder. Russian, German, Japanese, Portugese, Hindi, Bengali, Arabic are all serious candidates. Strictly ROI based I think German might be a good 5th pick.

100 years ago most americans worked as farmers. Most of our jobs would seem like bullshit jobs to people 100 years ago. This is in part because the economy is based on wants not needs and there are infinite wants. So 100 years from now most people will do services ie jobs that seem like bs to us now to satisfy wants- things like social media influencer for example. Money and “jobs” will be easier to come by not harder. Ubi would likely not be enough to pay your mortgage alone assuming a high mortgage . You could always refinance or do some work that appeals to you on the side.

@BryceFrank40887 @LokiJulianus Oh so people who's jobs are replaced (50x in the next three years according to Anthropic) will just have to fend for themselves in unemployment?

do they pay your mortgage if you get laid off now? Most people will still do things for money because they choose to not because they have to. Ideally the world already works this way for many. There are more millionaires than ever before. People are more productive than they’ve ever been.

I have often said if I was a billionaire id open a fully staffed blockbuster. Not because it would cost a billion of course but id need to be that rich to justify the 10-100s of thousands it would lose per year. People are not quite nosralgic enough to bring it back but almost. Too many malls and public places closed for online spaces.

There is something going on with pre-smartphone nostalgia. This isn't just "meh I must be getting old because I miss the past" (I'm older millennial). I've never seen people crave the past as much as they do now.
