We're delighted that the UK National Screening Committee has recommended a nationwide lung cancer screening programme. This is fantastic news which hopefully lead to many thousands of patients surviving lung cancer through earlier diagnosis and treatment.

Whilst advances in systemic treatment of advanced lung cancer have no doubt helped, surely there needs to be some mention of smoking cessation here - both as a likely larger contributor to this fall in mortality, and as a continuing strategy for driving it even lower?

@muirgray @felly500 @drlaurajane @angelaraffle This book was quoted several times in the Screening Practitioner track running parallel to the debates at #BTOGLCscreening, including 1st line of Preface “All screening programmes do harm etc.” and lifestyle advice from Horace Dobell in 1861 (beer, cheese, flannel clothing - p2).

@drsonyacressman Thanks. @IASLC - how about this as a radical solution to getting the tobacco cessation message more widely heard. No CME credits for any WCLC attendee unless they attend one tobacco control session. Wouldn’t be popular but nothing else is getting bums on seats. #WCLC2019

Disappointing that the room is so empty at #WCLC2019 to see an inspiring talk from IASLC-award winning Emily Stone about Tobacco Control. Surely this is the most pressing issue at this conference.
