"So, what does it mean to be a patient advocate, is it telling your story?" Patient advocacy takes many forms, storytelling is an effective tool, also, providing patient perspective on research, trials, and clinical care in the oncology community is a vital part of precision medicine. @IASLC and thoracic oncology community provides a great model for including patient voices. Today I attended the @CancerCentreIre Lung Programme as an advisory board member, in Dublin great strides are being made in proving the cost savings and efficiency to the country through early screening, also liquid biopsy and KRAS research in progress-75% diagnosed at early stage- this is what we're looking for- earlier diagnosis= better outcome. Move Against Cancer Africa (MACA) has officially launched the Tobacco Cessation and Smoke-Free Community Project in Garki Village, FCT Abuja. Today, we took another step with our community outreach program, reaching over 100 residents of the Garki Village. The program featured open conversations about the dangers of smoke and its link to cancer, and why smoke-free homes matter for every family. The previously concluded door-to-door community survey revealed that 80% of residents interviewed cook with firewood. That means smoke exposure is not just a tobacco issue; it is an everyday reality in many homes. The team also conducted in-depth interviews with seven key community influencers. Their opinions have helped us identify smoking and pollution hotspots, and we were able to mount signs promoting smoke-free homes among community leaders.
