Civil wars happen when *capital* turns on itself, elite factions & rival power centers organize against each other & fight for control of the central authority. And we’re not seeing anything like it. If anything, American elites are much more unified today than at most other points in U.S. history, across every region, power center, capital formation center, etc. What we have might be called a “cold civil war”, as it were, in which each side views the other as wicked & reprehensible. But that’s nothing new. Beyond the last 30 years of *extremely unusual* peace and prosperity, it has largely always been the case, as recently as the Civil Rights era.
