@spauldingtbear @iWomansplainer One of the best supports for this is radioactive decay of Uranium. It has a half life of ~4.46 billion years. I think it’s something like 90% of Uranium has the decay rate we expect to find at its half life.

@iWomansplainer I was taught 3-6 million back in grade school during the 60s. I don't remember when it hit the billions, except I was young but at my full height. (Somewhere between my late teens and 30ish.) And I really do believe dinosaurs lived, so not a young earther. Just curious.

@iWomansplainer 40% does sound a bit high, but I wouldn’t have thought twice about 20-30%. Overage depends upon carpet width and room shape. It could also be they are allowing more room for error if they have a novice installer.

So we’re ordering carpet for our new house and in the quote they have us buying over 40% more carpet than the square footage of the space, which seems like an insane waste percentage to us. Is that typical? Anyone know?

@2ndPartyPodcast It’s kind of cliche, but versions of this phrase help me with that, “if you wouldn’t accept advice from someone, you shouldn’t accept their criticism.” It also helps me to consider their statements as thoughtless instead of pointed.

@IGN In his defense, he probably doesn’t have time to watch many movies since he was so busy ruining everything at his workplace. Warcraft is a film that stands up very well even now among movies of its ilk.

Banning infant circumcision should be a high priority for every healthy society. It is a rotten and archaic procedure that should constitute aggravated battery charges. Why is it done? Outside religious reasons, there are two reasons given: 1. For cleanliness - A stupid argument that absolutely does not apply to the modern world with running water and soap. You can actually just wash yourself, believe it or not. 2. So it looks normal. The reason it "looks normal" is because idiots who say this still do it to their children. If we randomly lopped off the majority of babies' ears at birth, a normal looking adult would have no ears. It's "normal" because people keep doing it. A lot of the same people who are against even adults having gender reassignment surgery are pro circumcision. An infant can't consent to have flesh from his punishment removed. It's barbaric and permanently deforms your child (yes, that constitutes a surgical deformation) If your son wants to do it as an adult (They don't often want to), then he can do it. I don't want to hear "babies don't feel pain." Because they do. I don't want to hear "they won't remember it" because they'll live the rest of their lives missing a piece of their flesh. I'm glad I didn't make the same mistake my parents made because it was "normal" and broke the cycle of mutilation. Stop saying it's normal, it's not nearly as common in Europe. It's savage, grotesque, and cruel. Keep your hands and scalpels away from kids. Yes, this is a hill I'll die on.

Circumcision is the first act of aggression against men. It is unnecessary, barbaric, and worst of all nonconsensual. The claim that it’s done for hygienic purposes is silly. It’s 2025; we have access to water and soap. I really don’t understand why men aren’t talking about this!

@BSR163 @9mmsmg Yeah I agree, cut it off because we are lazy is absurd. I’m just saying people at large are not as clean as everyone seems to imagine. I probably should not have said, “to play devil’s advocate.”

@ConradStrife @9mmsmg So let's start pulling their teeth out too as they can't be trusted to clean them. Trimming all the flaps & folds in girls' vulvas has got to be a must because we can't trust them to wash properly, can we? Cutting off body parts to avoid having to clean it is an absurd argument.

As a child, I'd get up at 5 am on Saturday morning to make sure I was ready for when my dad arrived at 9 am to pick up my siblings and me. He almost never showed up. 40 years later, my Dad and I are doing therapy in public. Both of us addressing our pain and trauma.

I think the top reason would be they are disgusted by and inclined to condescend openly hypocritical Christian behavior. Second reason, CS Lewis said it best when he said if Jesus really was and is God, then something must be done about it. And it’s much easier to do nothing than something.

I can’t reason this one out either. I’m pretty sure he’s the biggest hedonist in the public eye. And he seems to be immune to consequences from scandal. I’m not sure what the mentality is, but the pattern is like… He does or says something awful, and because he’s such an outspoken hedonist, everyone just shrugs it off. His “penalty” is something like a time out. And then he pops up a month later having done or said something else utterly reprehensible. Rinse and repeat.

@eyeslasho That’s incorrect. That’s not ever what that position has been about. And if that was the intent of that job, then we all know it went out the window the first time an administration made a huge mistake.

@OldHollowTree Perspective is a crazy thing. My life experience with this is exactly opposite. People perpetually glorify extroverts and bash introverted behaviors.

One of the worst pieces of pop science in recent history was the whole introvert/extrovert thing. The theory itself wasn’t problematic, it was the weird glorification of introverts that followed. If you worked in tech in the last fifteen years, you saw some version of this. I knew it had become a sort of social grift when the CTO of my old company got on stage at a day-long retreat to explain the differences between extroverts and introverts. After his presentation, he solemnly proclaimed “Believe it or not, *I* am an introvert.” You would have thought the man revealed he was Christ himself the way the room gasped and applauded. Such a bold revelation! Such a **brave** admission! How many pseudoscience articles were we subjected to in the last decade with titles like “The Silent Revolution: How Introverts Save the World” and “We Need to Stop Treating Introverts like Extroverts”. It became a sort of protected, honored class put on a pedestal. An easy way to signify you were the underdog hero. Like so many things, we just became too weird with it.
