BREAKING: Environment Canada issued an orange level rainfall warning for Edmonton, Sherwood Park, and St. Albert Friday morning as another major storm system moves in this weekend, threatening to push the city into record breaking territory. Between 40 and 70 millimetres of rain is forecast through Saturday and Sunday, with the heaviest downpours expected Saturday. Orange is the second highest alert level and signals severe conditions expected to cause major widespread damage and disruption. Edmonton has already recorded 203 millimetres of rain this month, matching the second wettest June ever recorded in 1965. The all-time June record is 216.5 millimetres set in 1914. With this weekend’s rainfall on top of already saturated ground, the city is on track to break that 112-year-old record.
