Articles have grown 20x since December and they are now the largest blogging product on the internet by traffic.
In consumer product development, you sometimes take non-linear paths to discover opportunity.

Today I’m releasing my first feature length movie - “OJAI”. An experimental sci-fi drama film. Filmed all the way back in 2020, and finally releasing today. You can watch it here on X in 1080p, or go to the film’s website for a higher quality Vimeo/YouTube version: ojaifilm.com As this movie uses zero AI (just some good old fashioned VFX with After Effects!), it is definitely a bit different than the usual Heavy Pulp content that you’re used to seeing on this page, so wanted to offer up some context below if you’re interested: This movie was written, directed, produced and edited by yours truly, and filmed alongside an indie film crew comprised of some incredibly talented people almost 6 years ago. The script was written over the course of 2 years from 2018 through early 2020. Production filmed over the course of 27 days in September of 2020 on location in Ojai, CA with a very indie and now fully exhausted budget, and then edited for nearly 6 years. Now, it’s releasing out into the world. This 2 hour film wouldn't exist without the support of friends, family, faithful crew members and colleagues who believed in the project even when the road ahead was unclear. It wouldn't exist at all without the enormous reserves of patience, skill, love, and dedication poured into it by the cast and crew. There have been so many lessons learned and so much experience gained by making this movie. That alone has made this film well worth it. As the script was inspired by real events and circumstances in my own life, there is a very real emotional arc running through it no matter how surreal or “indie” the movie may get at times. Because of that, I will always look back on this project and the process creating it with absolute reverence. Making this movie has been one of grandest adventures that I have ever undertaken, and I hope you find something redeeming in it too! Already on to the next big project. Enjoy!

@higginswerx @aimusicvideo From what I've seen, ElevenLabs is actually better than Suno, apples to apples, but costs something like 50x more per generation, so it's just too expensive to play with. Suno is crazy cheap, so no pressure.
Maybe their prices are coming down, though?

I'd keep doing the multi-category contests, but also start distribution channels as loss leaders.
Don't just give people money to make stuff. Hire the best to make shows and movies to distribute and monetize on a branded channel they push out on every major platform (smart TVs, apps, Amazon Prime, every social media site, etc.), then feed all revenue from it back into making more shows and movies.

He's just half-ass singing sentences and swaying into a camcorder, and the situation is such a fucking insane abuse of power that's all he had to do. Amazing those fools were dumb enough to take him to court, drawing even more attention to their obvious mistakes.

The Afroman Trial.
-Cops raid Afromans house for bullshit reasons.
-Steal money, break his door, fuck his house up.
-No criminality found whatsoever, no charges at all pressed on Afroman.
-Afroman spends the next 3 years making songs that make fun of all the officers involved by name, even using footage of the raid from his own CCTV cameras.
-Songs had titles like "Randy Walters is a son of a bitch" and "Lick Em Low Lisa" accusing one of the officers of being a lesbian and sleeping with the other officers wives.
-During the raid one officer looked like he was about to eat some lemon pound cake sitting on Afromans counter, Afroman made a whole album calling the officer fat.
-The cops get mad and file a lawsuit for defamation.
-Afroman turns up to court in a whole American flag suit.
-Officers performatively mald and cry while listening to the songs really trying to oversell how badly the songs upset them.
-One officer was suing because Afroman made a whole song about him saying he was fucking the officers wife. When the officer was asked if Afroman was really fucking his wife, he said "I don't know". Nuking his own case and establishing that there is a non-zero chance that Afroman might actually be fucking his wife.
-As his only witness for the trial, Afroman brought a deputies EX FUCKING WIFE.
-The jury ruled completely in favour of Afroman.
This entire thing has been a great win for free speech and absolutely fucking hilarious.

IP owners who get this right make BANK.
Warhammer 40K might be the best example. I have no interest in that game at all, but there are so damn many people making content about the stories and lore that it's effectively billions of dollars in free advertising for them.
Companies behind Star Trek and Nintendo are on the other end of the spectrum. If they'd instead tell people not to directly monetize fan fiction using their IP, but go nuts otherwise, we'd see so, so much more, and the IP owners benefit most.

@FrontierModal You missed the point of what I was saying, we are actually agreeing. “Let it be what it is” is the part that’s being leaned into. Yes make it organic, but don’t shy away from the non cynical elements to please the cynics.

If you see Project Hail Mary this weekend, I hope you'll remember how I told you over 3 years ago that stuff like this was going to explode in pop culture. -From ironic cynicism to post-ironic sincerity. -Embracing the "cringe" & the celebration of the earnest "try-hard." -From deconstructing the past, to a nostalgia for some positive "vibe" we lost in the deconstruction. -The rejection of Fight Club-era nihilism. -The ability to stare at the apocalypse in front of you and be hopeful instead of a "doomer."

Leans are cringe for me. Let it be what it is. Find the flow/tao of the story. Keep working on it until all the foundational elements naturally fit and work together, then wwim with the current that comes from that, not any external preconceptions.
Good storytelling doesn't come from ABC or XYZ, but whatever string of metaphorical letters come out of it naturally. Ridiculous movies should be ridiculous, not gritty because grit worked in another movie, or dumb anachronisms because that works in YA fiction, or ham-fisted repetitive, color by numbers garbage because you think viewers are stupid when the show is supposed to be the next Yellowstone. Etc. Etc. Etc. ad nauseum.

I agree about the shoe horning. Make it make sense is the way I like to say it. Some definitions of the cringe this article is talking about is more about leaning into the hopelessness, upbeat elements without the need to make excuses for liking it.
It’s like saying “I like that 80s movie Iron Eagle” without having to follow up with “I know it’s cheesy, doesn’t make sense…etc”.
