NEW: Holy crap! We Heart Seattle
just exposed “safe consumption” drug shacks being operated by the Low Income Housing Institute, one of the largest operators of tiny houses for the homeless.
Instead of addiction treatment on site, residents at Interbay Village have the option to smoke all kinds of drugs including fentanyl. Staff are supposed to be watching for overdoses with Narcan shots nearby.
Problem is, LIHI leaders never tout this part of their taxpayer funded operation.
Mayor Katie Wilson and other elected officials have pushed for more of these tiny houses to be opened before the FIFA World Cup in June.
Funny thing is, they never talk about these drug shacks either. This is a scandal. 🧵👇🏽

Don’t hate the player, hate the game. Funding requires low barrier (drugs allowed), and “harm reduction” practices like this dedicated volunteer built tiny home to smoke illegal and lethal Fentanyl. Do the voters know they are paying for this and to be installed in their communities? Do our elected officials know @MayorofSeattle @CityofSeattle ? If @ExecZahilay @KingCoRHA @KCPubHealth called them “Safe” Consumption Sights” at least we could stop debating what some of these villages actually are set up to do. Transparency is accountability.
