@NoahArbit It isn't a dog whistle. There's no secret message. Only "it is illegitimate to seek an ethnostate".

We don’t talk about any other country this way. No one identifies as anti-Iran, anti-North Korea. We oppose their rogue regimes, policies, governments. Calling yourself “anti-Israel,” is just dog whistling that it’s illegitimate for Jews to have a state.

@LogoSimian Most of the bishops at Nicea were Traditors They had already once handed over their scriptures & sold out their brethren to save life or limb. The Donatists who had endured Diocletian & refused to reinstall Traditors were deposed & even martyred by Constantine beginning in 317

Guys. Most of the bishops at Nicea were old enough to remember Diocletian. In other words they had already demonstrated at risk of life and limb that they would happily disobey Constantine if he ordered them to edit the faith.

@PracticalTheolo What might make this confusing is the statement that Jesus is God. You hear "God" and think of the Father. "Jesus is uncreated & undying, omniscient, omnipresent & omnipotent" etc. But that isn't what's being said x.com/i/status/16515…
R.Сам 🦋🐏@Logo_Daedalus

The “trinitarian metaphysic” just treats hebrew poetry as if it’s neoplatonic “rational theology” & makes this relation impossible to understand — “duty authority and wisdom have the same substance” what the fuck does that even mean

@PracticalTheolo He gave up his life. He died. He didn't die as a human body but remain conscious as a disembodied soul in limbo He didn't die as a bodily avatar of an immortal soul piloting from Heaven. He died. Body & soul. Jesus was gone, like anyone else who dies.

Trinitarians like to emphasize Jesus sacrificed his *human* life, but if Jesus was God, what was he giving up, exactly?
Anthony Burgoyne@PracticalTheolo

@beckevangelista What was so important about his human life? 1. He knew he would get it back 3 days later, no? 2. He knew he was already God - what's lacking in his existence without a human life?

@lukeisamazing "globe bestriding Christian empires that kill in the name of your God" are precisely what we call "antichrists". We aren't happy about them! There's a whole book of the Bible condemning them!

I am literally conceiving of a world without God right now. Also, it doesn't make sense to say that something “is existence”. That's just gibberish.

@dummsurfer @Leophilius The use of it today is being able to recognize ancient discussions of God as discussions of reality e.g. to recognise "God's Law" as the political, economic & cultural demands that material conditions put on the working classes of the crossroads of the Old World

@GalacticAxekick @Leophilius i don't think it's really very hard to get once one gets rid of the notion that god's a sort of person. but i do also wonder what's the use today? it really doesn't seem like the world is all that different if we affirm it to be god (unless we start tacking on other things too)

@GalacticAxekick @Leophilius Father Maguire's Catechism would like a word. Who made the World? God made the World. Who is God? God is the Supreme Being who made all things. If I thought God was "being", I might be tempted to come back. But likely not.

@Leophilius @GalacticAxekick i'm not a christian or any other sort of theist but my understanding is that god is being in the sense that they're synomyms. you could say the same or at least similar sort of thing by saying that god is the world, god is reality, to be is to be within god etc if that helps

@XroadsSoul @Stephen_Angliss You've been inconsistent about whether or not he was preaching x.com/i/status/20408… Own up to that before moving on to anything
Benjamin Iradukunda@GalacticAxekick

@XroadsSoul @Stephen_Angliss You said verbatim "He was not preaching- he was proclaiming His authority over them." Then, when that argument didn't convince me, you said verbatim "The word 'preach' means to make proclamation" That redefinition within your own argument is what I'm referring to.

I think you need to reread what I've said. I've consistently maintained that the word used in Peter means to "Make proclamation". Some translations will interpret that as "preach", which it can mean, but that is not the best translation in the context and it confuses people who don't dig a little deeper and see that Jesus was not preaching to lost souls, as some falsely interpret. He was making a "proclamation" of His authority - as is theologically consistent with what we read in Colosians and in Jude. His death on the cross canceled out the certificate of debt and decress against us that the accuser used against us. Jesus disarmed those rulers and authorities. His time in Hades was not to give the men of Noah's day a second chance to be saved, the ones of whom God said it grieved Him that He has created mankind, that is not theologically consistent with any other scripture. What is theologically consistent is that Jesus went there to take authority over death and to obtain the keys of hell, death and the grave and to make a proclomation of His authority over death.

Your annual reminder that, no, Jesus was not in Hell between Friday and Sunday—despite what the Apostle’s Creed says. This is a great example of the danger of over emphasizing creeds and confessionals. It results in a theology that is shaped by tradition instead of Scripture.

@XroadsSoul @Stephen_Angliss I'll hear you out about Colossians when you show that you can speak consistently and truthfully about the Peter. Otherwise we're just starting a second hopeless debate about another passage we interpret differently & that, for all I know, you'll read inconsistently

@XroadsSoul @Stephen_Angliss If you had the capacity to say "you know what? I mispoke. That line of argument was no good. But there is nonetheless evidence towards my conclusion" I'd hear you out But you didn't have that integrity. You just changed your tune and pretended you didn't.

The word “preach” means to make proclamation. He was proclaiming His authority over the spiritual powers that held accusations against sinners and disarming them Col 2:14  having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Col 2:15  When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him

@Leophilius No thing is "being being". Again, that is just the phrasing adopted by a people that did not yet have words like "reality" or "existence": only the verb "to be". They couldn't say "The reality of the situation demands that we do X" and so it was "Being Himself demands..." &c

@Rationalminds9 @Aelthemplaer Did you read the passage in the picture? It doesn't even use the word "Christ," so pointing out the word's ambiguity is pointless. It says that various manifestations of God in the temple ceased during the 40 years between the crucifixion of Jesus & the temple's destruction

@Aelthemplaer Christ just means an anointed. Kings and priests were anointed aka Christs. Nothing to do with church’s Jesus Christ. 🤦🏻
