I’m at Patriot Place in “Boston” for the Scotland-Morocco game tonight, eating lunch at the Olive Garden and going to browse the Bass Pro Shop that’s next door. Thinking of making a video about it like a European tourist.

@SidKhurana3607 I didn't know Massachusetts was a hub for Moroccoan Americans🇲🇦🇺🇸 but after checking my app it looks like there are a bunch in the northern suburbs including Revere. For Scottish ancestry Appalachia has millions who don't know they are Scottish and just say American for ancestry.

@SidKhurana3607 Brazilian 🇧🇷 vs Haitian 🇭🇹 immigrants in Miami. Brazilians tend to be in the wealthier beach areas along the coast while Haitians are in the lower income inland areas.

@ZhouJaron The base of the Republican party is areas where marriage is a social default but a college degree isn't. The vast majority of rural America falls into this category but not a single neighborhood in DC does.

@jawwwn_ I started making Android apps in high school. Were they successful? Absolutely not. Was it an important experience to gain early in life? Hell yeah it was. I now am making more successful apps in my mid 20s when most people would just be getting started.

Peter Thiel: Europe will never have massive tech companies because they fear success. "In Silicon Valley, there's this pornography of failure. You talk about all your failures, and this somehow means you're going to succeed." "In the social democratic European societies, it's acceptable to be moderately successful, it's not acceptable to be wildly successful. If you have a successful company that's starting to grow, it will get short-circuited, and you'll sell the company. You'll never get to an enormous company if you sell it along the way." "The single most important decision in the history of Facebook— summer of 2006. It was two years into the company. We got an acquisition offer for $1B from Yahoo to buy the company. There were three of us on the board— Mark Zuckerberg, myself, and another VC. We had a meeting to decide if we should take the $1B." "The two of us thought it was a lot of money, we should maybe take it. Mark started the board meeting— 'this is a pro forma thing, we're just going to talk about this for 10 minutes. Obviously we're not taking it.'" "Any super big tech company is one where you've been offered multiple times for people to buy it, and you've chosen never to sell it. You're not that afraid of success." "In Europe, the answer is to check out sooner rather than later and go back to the decade-long vacation that people are on in Europe."

There are three groups of weirdos in SF that all hate and fear each other: techies, queerdos, and fentanyl zombies All three together are outnumbered by the normies, who try to ignore all three groups (and are ignored by them in turn)

I am often surprised by what is possible. Going from SF to Tahoe feels like a big deal. It’s a 200 mile drive, you have to get a rental car, etc. And you assume that no Uber driver would want such a far trip. Turns out: you can totally just take an Uber. Some drivers want these! 3.5 hour drive, a straight shot in the summer. Much less stressful than the entire rental car rigamarole. I was surprised by how easy and viable this is. The inevitable next thought is when Waymos will be able to handle this drive. Certainly for summer weather, it feels within reach.

The reason why so many Europeans here for the World Cup want to stay is because they’re not the Europeans we normally get. Those Europeans hang out in New York City with Americans who wish they weren’t Americans. What appears to be happening instead with the World Cup is regular Europeans are experiencing regular America and regular Americans.

@HistoryBoomer Marriage as a social default is the main divide between the working class dependant on blue collar jobs and the underclass dependant on the state. Bronx is primarily underclass while Queens and Staten Island are primarily working class. Brooklyn has both and gentrification too.

That's the Soundview section of The Bronx. It's 80% Hispanic, but at least one of the men shot was from Jamaica. Median household income in that census tract is $35,600. Only 9% of those aged 25+ have a bachelor's degree. This is worlds away from my middle/working class area. Median household income in my tract is $116,000. 32% have a bachelor's degree. The tract across the street is poorer, $53,500, although 33% have a bachelor's degree. Both tracts are also majority Hispanic. And we're not in the rich areas! The Upper East Side tract outside my beloved Metropolitan Museum of Art has a $250,000+ median household income, with 95% having a bachelor's degree or higher. New York has some stark economic divides.

@Empty_America The county I live in has a lower life expectancy that Bangladesh lol, although I used county level data from just after Covid to make this vs 2024 Bangladesh data so that might be why. It takes a while for local life expectancy data to come out.

@realMaalouf The American religious landscape will be very different by the 2040s, Muslims will outnumber Jews and what is left of the Jewish community will be very Orthodox. Orthodox Jews and Amish will start taking over counties in the 2040s.

The U.S. is quite literally the last Western country where the Jewish population still outnumbers the Muslim population. I don’t think most people fully grasp how radically different America will become once Muslims surpass Jews.

@simongerman600 There will need to be a pension funding financial crisis in order to force governments to re calibrate social spending, as an American I hope this happens first in France, Italy, etc to give our leaders cover to make the changes needed before it happens to us

This is US data but the same is the case across Europe and Australia: 89% of senior citizens support raising taxes on younger workers to maintain their benefits. The median primary voter is 65 in the US. That puts the current parties in a pickle: either lose the elections now when making policies for young people or sign the death warrant of your party as the young people will never forgive you. I’m predicting a mass extinction of established parties. They could save themselves but seem too thick headed.

US demographics is even worse than the UK's. Latino population is projected to grow significantly to the point where Whites will be a minority in 20 years. In the UK, whites are projected to be a minority in 50 years - assuming nothing changes. Change is slightly more plausible in the UK as there's much less of a deep state as well as pro establishment lobbyists and PACs.

I like the think Rape Gangs like the ones in Britain would never happen in America because we would kill them with our guns. Americans still retain the requisite portion of savagery that has been suppressed from the European character.
