Police shot and killed 44-year-old Anthony Griffin Saturday morning at the Grand Central Station.
The NYPD says Griffin stabbed three people and ignored approximately 20 commands by responding officers to drop his knife.
He was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The slashed victims and officers were taken to nearby hospitals in stable condition.
Police say Griffin had 3 prior arrests, but no documented EDP history.

I have been briefed on an incident that occurred at Grand Central Station this morning. Reports indicate a man slashed three people on the platform with a machete. Officers shot the man when he did not drop the machete. He has since been pronounced dead.
I’m grateful to the NYPD for their quick response and for preventing additional violence. The three victims were taken to the hospital and are thankfully in stable condition. The NYPD is conducting an internal investigation and will release body-worn camera footage, as it does in all incidents involving the discharge of an officer's firearm.

The Bushwick community gathered to mourn the loss of 7-month-old Kaori Patterson-Moore, who was killed by a stray bullet in her stroller Wednesday afternoon.
Elected officials stood alongside the grieving family: Attorney General Letitia James, Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, and Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez.
On Friday, NYPD arrested 18-year-old Matthew Rodriguez- he’s believed to be the second suspect wanted for driving the moped during the fatal shooting. He was taken in custody in Pennsylvania by NYPD detectives. Charges pending.
On Wednesday, suspected gunman, 21-year-old Amari Greene, was charged with murder, attempted murder, and assault.

🎣 For the first time in 50 years, New Yorkers can safely eat some fish caught in the lower Hudson River, according to updated state health guidance released this week.
State health officials say declining levels of PCBs now allow for limited consumption of fish from Rip Van Winkle Bridge in the Catskills all the way down to the Battery of Manhattan.
Under the new rules, the general population can eat up to four meals a month of certain fish, including striped bass, while children and those who may become pregnant are advised to limit it to one 8-ounce meal a month.
Officials said some species, like carp and smallmouth bass, should still be avoided entirely due to contamination.
Because PCBs stay in the fat of fish, anglers are urged to still cut the skin and fat off fish, and to cook the fat off as well, to reduce the amount.
At the same time, the state is tightening guidance in other waterways because of concerns over PFOS, a chemical found in some fish that can pose health risks.

🪧 Residents held a fiery rally over the weekend to oppose a homeless shelter in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn.
The rally was held Saturday near the planned site of the shelter for 150 single men at 2501 86th St., near the 86th Street subway station.
Among those who turned out in opposition were Council Member Susan Zhuang, Assemblyman Michael Novakov and Senator Steve Chan. They’ve proposed alternatives, including senior housing and affordable housing for the site.
“I said to Mayor Mamdani, you know, I couldn’t think of a better location for senior housing,” Chan said. He suggested Rikers Island for the shelter.
The New York City Department of Homeless Services is preparing to break ground on the site as soon as this week.
Opposition to the shelter has been fierce, with numerous protests since the plan was first announced in 2023. Among residents’ concerns is safety and a potential drop in property values.

🚨 Three people were wounded Sunday afternoon in a stabbing in Brownsville, Brooklyn.
The victims were all being uncooperative, officials said, as police investigate the triple stabbing, which happened around 1 p.m. Sunday at the Van Dyke Houses on Dumont Avenue.
The victims included a 25-year-old woman who was stabbed in the stomach, a 26-year-old woman who was stabbed in the lower back, and a 23-year-old man who was stabbed in the chest.
Police said it wasn’t immediately clear if the victims knew their attacker or what led up to the stabbing.
A longtime resident, Diane, said she was leaving for the day with her granddaughter when she saw “somebody drop to the floor.” She said she hasn't seen the victims before.
All three of them were recovering at area hospitals on Monday.

🫧 More than 1,000 seltzer-lovers took over Industry City on Sunday for the second annual Brooklyn SeltzerFest.
The event included taste-testing, live music and an egg cream competition.
Barry Joseph, the festival’s organizer and executive director of the Brooklyn Seltzer Museum, said, “seltzer culture means so much to so many people but in so many different ways.”
“There are people who are here today because it means something to them from a point of nostalgia, something that’s part of Brooklyn or New York City history,” Joseph said. “For someone else, it’s all about comedy, it’s about the Three Stooges and someone spraying someone else in the face. For other people it’s about health, for other people it’s about their identity.”
Angelo Roefaro, CEO of Seltzie, emphasized that his seltzer has no “natural flavors,” which he said are a mystery in the food industry.
“No one tells the consumer what is in a natural flavor,” he said. “Ask a consumer what’s a natural flavor, and they’ll scratch their head.”
“This is only one flavor—none,” he said.
Seltzie cans includes a QR code to a petition to the FDA to investigate natural flavors, “because we deserve to know what the hell is in a natural flavor,” he said.

@AmandaTAlex I first heard a loud rumbling then my house shook for approximately 6 seconds. The loud rumbling sounded like an explosion. Just heard from my ADT alarm system that it was a 2.0 earthquake. That’s all I can share. I live in Westchester County. Hope that’s helpful.
