@Sachk0 Still don’t think people understand how much potential (and current performance) he has.

@M1D3V He’ll do fine. We never gave him consistent minutes which as we all know is a killer for strikers.

Listening to Postecoglu suggesting that all Ancelotti did tonight was put on his players and wait for them to do their thing, I’m reminded of the words attributed to Lao Tzu 1700 years ago: “The best of all rulers is but a shadowy presence to his subjects. Hesitant, he…

@Sachk0 Yes and no. The Prem League this year shows what happens when you let keeper crowding and interference go unchecked. Germany really didn’t do enough to win that game.

Germany vs Paraguay... wow. That disallowed goal in extra-time and the shoot-out. That decision to rule out Tah's goal is looking even worse now.

Crazy thing about Ancelotti is that he probably didn’t say anything to them at half time😂 There was a game Dortmund was beating Real Madrid at half time, I think 2 or 3-0, Madrid came back to win that game. Bellingham was asked what Carlo said at half time. He said the coach just told them to do their thing😂😂😂 Every player that has played under Carlo Ancelotti always say the same thing, his man-management. Gareth Bale also mentioned this. Carlo believes his guys, and he just trusts you to get the job done.

Carlo Ancelotti team losing the first half and then making a late comeback in the second. We have seen this movie so many times.

@scout_aussie We’re getting context around our performance so far. Look at the nations who have gone home, too. We can beat Egypt - we all know we can. From there, it’s a toss up. Feeling quite bullish.

Crosses into the box. Forget about positional rotations, fullbacks on the half-space, runs in behind, wingers in 1v1, counter-movements, automatisms, long-range shooting… The most effective weapon of this World Cup to break a low block has been a cross into the box.

Trabzonspor coming in hot for Nestory Irankunda 🇦🇺🇹🇷 🔥 ⚡ The 20-year-old winger impressed during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, catching the eye with his electric pace, fearless 1v1 ability and memorable goal against Türkiye. 👀 It’s understood Trabzonspor boss Fatih Tekke is a big admirer of Irankunda after watching him throughout the tournament. 💰 The Watford F.C. star has a reported €10 million release clause, but it expires on July 1, leaving Trabzonspor with very little time to make their move. 📝 Via @kapitanosport

@Ruxiiii4 Absolute bullshit. He started the game wide. Then drifted in. Then went back to his original position. Brazil went to the air is what changed. Seriously dude, watch the game.

The change from Ancelotti to move Vinicius Junior from playing inside to playing closer to the touchline was a game-changer. It was the main reason why Brazil dominated Japan in the second half. It wasn’t an easy adjustment because Vini had been scoring a lot of goals and making a difference when playing inside. However, against a team like Japan, who don’t really allow access to central spaces, Vini’s influence was too limited. Naturally, he was already moving wider in the first half to get more involved. It was a very good adaptation from Ancelotti to allow Vini to move further out wide. His threat and ability to carry the ball forced Japan to drop deeper and defend closer to their own goal. This created more options for Brazil to attack with crosses into the box, something that made less sense in the first half because Japan’s defensive block was positioned slightly higher up the pitch. This small adjustment completely changed the dynamics of the game.

@QuentinDempster Quentin, stop giving this oxygen. She’s never going to be PM. ON is having a moment in the near-sun because of the Libs’ detonation. Nothing more. Every time she speaks, she goes down in the polls. Less pearl clutching from the left would be nice.

JDVance/Trump likely to support Pauline for PM. Foreign policy? Pauline would join a US war with China over Taiwan; no objection to punitive US tariffs on Aussie exports or US tech platforms (Meta, X, Google, Amazon, Disney, Apple etc) destroying our cultural/media industries via AI data thievery.

@UrbanExplorer00 Delusional. The technical quality of the worst Japanese player is miles above the best Scot. The task is to find a way that works with available resources, not retreat into fairyland.

@TheAthleticFC Absolute crap. You only write this because of his history. This game was more about Japan’s mental state than a second-class Brazil performance. They couldn’t play through or around, so they went basic and put it in the air. Fanboy journalism.

This game provided a reason why Brazil brought in Carlo Ancelotti. The pressure on any Brazil team, or coach, is always astonishing. But, as ever, Ancelotti was the coolest head in Houston. Brazil had been overrun in midfield in the opening 45 minutes, so introducing Endrick for Lucas Paqueta and going to a 4-2-4 system could have been asking for trouble. Instead, it proved an inspired move. That's what Ancelotti's best Madrid sides often did: not play great, struggle at times, but find a way to win, often by big players stepping up in vital moments to provide what their team needed. 🔗 nyti.ms/3T9XVFR
