@Ghvccd2 @Sconethemorra @slayertofunny @elizabethm46248 @scoobygal52 In Scotland the govt produce a balanced budget every year based on what they get via Barnett & consequentials. The disgraceful 11.6% deficit is created by unrestrained, indiscriminate & undefined expenditure apportioning to the UK element ie, funds not spent in Scotland, by WM

Insane this....Aberdeen is the oil capital of Europe. London has none. Scotland cannot borrow but has a deficit of 11.6% (GERS). Romania has the worst deficit in Europe at 9.3%. That stat alone should be a wake up call to anyone who thinks the union is Scotland's best choice.

@PositiveScotla2 @Erudite4Unity @ReformUKScot Absolutely. In an ideal world if everyone followed the tactical voting guide, I’d do the same. The problem is they won’t and Reform are sounding far more promising in my constituency. I might still go conservative on the list.

@jollyman56 @Sconethemorra @slayertofunny @elizabethm46248 @scoobygal52 We give money away and then get back via the Barnett formula. That’s how countries work, regions pay in and then get it back based on government spending and need. That was the point of the analogy. In Scotland public spending actually exceeds all revenue raised anyway.

@Ghvccd2 @Sconethemorra @slayertofunny @elizabethm46248 @scoobygal52 That's what's wrong. And a shit analogy as NE and Shetland are part of Scotland. The UK isn't a country. It's a composite: a union of 3 countries and an artificially created province. The oil/gas and renewable revenues rightly belong to Scotland. The crime is you giving them away

NEW: “The SNP manifesto pledges additional spending – costing an estimated £1.4 billion a year by 2031–32 – without credibly saying how it would pay for this.” 📗 Read our response to the SNP’s manifesto here: ifs.org.uk/articles/ifs-i…

@Erudite4Unity @ReformUKScot Interesting. I can see that with Reform as they’re controversial. However, despite its limitations, personal experience is leaving me on the fence. Hearing quite a bit of support for Reform in my constituency and not a lot of enthusiasm for the tories.

@Ghvccd2 I constructed the guide in exactly the same way as Scotland In Union, whose guide also shows @ReformUKScot winning no constituencies. There are many factors to consider, particularly propensity to attract votes from supporters of other parties. That's where Reform falls short.

Douglas Lumsden for Aberdeenshire East
Yet more news of job losses in the North East due to Labour and the SNPs hostility to our North Sea oil and gas industry. While we continue to have a demand for oil and gas it is common sense to use our own. Only the @ScotTories will give the industry the support it needs.

@jollyman56 @Sconethemorra @slayertofunny @elizabethm46248 @scoobygal52 That’s not how taxation in any country works. It would be like saying in an indy Scotland ‘all oil and gas revenues should go to the North East and Shetland.’ I wouldn’t want that. We pay taxes to the treasury like all parts of the UK and benefit from the spending equally

@Ghvccd2 @Sconethemorra @slayertofunny @elizabethm46248 @scoobygal52 They were right to abstain. They wanted oil/gas and renewable revenues to go directly to Scotland. It was ignored of course. Also, although their core value is a move away from fossil fuels, they are aware that the middle east crisis has emphasised the need for energy security

@Sconethemorra @slayertofunny @elizabethm46248 @jollyman56 @scoobygal52 Whether they did or didn’t bring down a Labour gov in 70s is irrelevant. It was a simple choice a few weeks ago: show where you stand. Are you for the jobs and the industry or not? No playing politics and demanding powers. Take a position. That’s what people will look at.

@Ghvccd2 @slayertofunny @elizabethm46248 @jollyman56 @scoobygal52 They did that in the 70's and have been pilloried for it ever since. Despite the fact it was Labour rebels who brought down Callaghan and heralded the reign of Thatcher. Even back then they were pissing into an English wind...whilst being blamed for the direction it was blowing!

@jollyman56 I’m focusing on what’s happening now that affects the jobs of friends and family and holding SNP, Greens and Labour to account. Yes, that’s right. I like what we have on this island and don’t want to see it fall apart. We’re not a colony and are a core part of the UK.

@Ghvccd2 No. You are deliberately choosing to focus on the conclusion without giving context. I'd guess you dont like the SNP because they want to break up the UK and end your colonial status. You may not see that as a favour just now, but you will thank us some day.

@Stevo71Tate @MrTCHarris No one’s scared. We’re just not revisiting this issue every few years until you get the result you want. No won fair and square in 2014; there’s no credible evidence to suggest otherwise.

A reminder: neither the SNP nor any other party can win a mandate to force any other party to deliver its manifesto commitments. The only thing an SNP majority at Holyrood would deliver would be John Swinney's right to request a second referendum. It would place no obligation on the UK government to agree.

@MrTCHarris More than likely but no one would take them seriously after losing twice. The issue we have is this problem is not going away and it’s front and centre at every election taking attention away from other more important matters.

@Ghvccd2 No, because I guarantee they would begin the campaign for #indyref3 the day after they lost again. Also, why should Britain be unique as the only country in the world willing to surrender its territorial integrity to nationalism?

@Ghvccd2 @slayertofunny @elizabethm46248 @jollyman56 @scoobygal52 How do you stand up for Scotland as an MP in the HoC's when you are outvoted by the blue and red Tories massive parliamentary advantage? Even when they had 56 MP's (out of Scotland's then 59 seats) the SNP were still pissing into an English wind. The union doesn't serve Scotland.

@Ghvccd2 @Sconethemorra @slayertofunny @elizabethm46248 @scoobygal52 Agree. Shame they shut down the only refinery left. 50 years of oil production in Scottish waters. Aberdeen the ‘oil capital’ of Europe and yet in all that time, not one new refinery was built or upgraded in Scotland. Meanwhile England has 3 and Wales? 1. Bizarre.

@jollyman56 @Sconethemorra @slayertofunny @elizabethm46248 @scoobygal52 Correct. We should be doing everything we can to shift our energy towards renewable sources to tackle climate change and get away from the volatility of fossil fuels. But that won’t happen overnight. So while fossil fuels are consumed in the UK, they should be produced here too

@Ghvccd2 @Sconethemorra @slayertofunny @elizabethm46248 @scoobygal52 You are entitled to your opinion. You are aware that up until recently events in the middle east, there has been a shift away from fossil fuels towards greener renewable energy? That explains the SNP policy generally although that policy has required to be rethought obviously.

@Ghvccd2 Relevance? £500bn of lost oil revenues that went to WM instead of into Scotlands coffers over the last 50 years is the cause, not opposition to some future drilling licences today.

@jollyman56 @Sconethemorra @slayertofunny @elizabethm46248 @scoobygal52 They knew they weren’t going to get that powers transferred so that’s just dressing it up because they shat it. They’ve been inconsistent on oil and gas since Alex Salmond because 1) They don’t care about the NE as they’re a central belt party 2) They’re in bed with the greens.

@Ghvccd2 @Sconethemorra @slayertofunny @elizabethm46248 @scoobygal52 The SNP amendment was that Scotland’s oil, gas and renewable energy resources rightly belong to the people of Scotland and called for full powers over revenues from Scotland’s energy sector to return to HR. It also condemned energy bills which are amongst the highest in Europe.
