@matigary @gift_mugano This does not make sense, you cannot turn in a paper that has already submitted and check it for plagiarism. You are comparing it against its first submission that’s why it is that high…
English

Why is @gift_mugano's dissertation plagiarized this much? His university did not have tools like Turn-it In?
Turn-it In is screaming red!!!

@JosephMusariri4 @CalvinTeddy Correction: “when the press erroneously realised a statement that a NUST STAFF MEMBER was the complaint”
English

@CalvinTeddy Yes I did however it is important to note that the issue took a different dimension when the press releases that a NUST STAFF MEMBER was the complaint
English

@matigary So you have settled on redefining a whole tribe, so you can continue your banter against them? What’s with the obsession with this banter? The perpetrator cannot prescribe to the victim how to feel and react. The tribal banter must fall! It’s wrong.
English

@Frances80697906 @matigary Do you realise all the allegations you raised are committed by the dominant Shona tribe against other tribes. Who mocks the Ndau ? Shona! Who mocks Masvingo people? Shona! Who mocks the Mhofu? Shona!
English

@matigary You can say that again, Tanaka was just joking , alot of times we the Ndau people get laughed at coz of the way we speak 😉 Vekumasvingo tovatsvinyirawo nezvavo asi hatisungisane nezvinhu zvisina basa , Mhofu vane problem yekumba chaiyo pamwe bonde hakuna kumba uko ma 1

@sithule40322543 @nustzim I don’t care about that. They are wasting state resources

@MalvernBingwa @ChronicleZim @nustzim Why do you trivially put your statement in a tribalist manner.. tribalism is not about punishing Ndebele or Shona.. it is about bringing all tribalistic tendencies to book.
English

@ChronicleZim @nustzim I just hope this law will also punish Ndebele people who do the same thing to Shona people.
English

A NATIONAL University of Science and Technology (@nustzim ) student will forever rue the day he decided to post a provocative tribal comment on his X page demeaning Ndebele people, as he has been arraigned before the courts.

@advocatemahere Hey Fadzi...speaking as an artist...this copyright act of ours in totality is way outdated...to be honest it's needs serious amendments...thanks for enlightening the masses with this info on how copyright generally works..
English

@mrmakhalima @advocatemahere If only we voted right, we would have people in parliament who can bring such issues to debate and have the lawmakers change or update the copyright act and other outdated acts like the road traffic regulations.

🟣COPYRIGHT LAW 101 for musicians:
➡️As the term suggests, copyright is the right to copy.
➡️When a person creates music or any other artistic work, they own the right to copy, distribute, adapt, display, and perform that music. This is the essence of copyright.
➡️This means the original creator of the music holds the exclusive right to reproduce or create an adaptation of the music.
➡️If any person wishes to use or adapt the music, that person has a legal obligation to secure permission from the owner of the copyright.
➡️Unlike trademarks and patents that need to first be registered, copyright exists automatically or by operation of law - particularly by virtue of section 9(1) of the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Act. Therefore, once you create the music, you automatically own the copyright to it without the need to register it or perform any other legal act.
➡️Section 20(f) of the same law prohibits, among other things making any adaptations of the music without the express authority of the owner of the copyright.
➡️Copyright lasts for a period of 50 years in terms of section 15 of the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Act. Thereafter, other artists are entitled to copy, reproduce or adapt the music without seeking permission.
➡️Where an artist’s copyright has been infringed, that artist has the right to sue the offending party for damages. They can also obtain an interdict which is a court order prohibiting the continuation of the unlawful use of the music. An artist can also get the music taken off a musical platform or an order for the attachment of any infringing copies of the music. These remedies are provided for in section 52 of the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Act and in the common law.

@MukoTobias @advocatemahere Some questions though…. Hayi ah! Anyway, the Bible is public knowledge and therefore has no copyright. Yet the issue here is sampling the melody and beats not the words.
English

🟣You are missing the point. Jah Signal didn’t just sing the Bible verse. He *sampled* Pastor Charamba’s song. Anyone who listens to it can see that it’s an adaptation of Pastor Charamba’s song.
Sampling is when you reuse a portion of someone else’s sound recording in your recording. A sample is not just the words. It normally comprises of more elements such as rhythm, melody, speech, sound effects or longer portions of music. The sample can be layered, equalized, sped up or slowed down, repitched, looped, or otherwise manipulated. At the end of the day it is still an adaptation of another artist’s work and therefore a breach of section 20 of the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Act.
If an artist sings something as generic as “I will always love you” - a common sentence in romance, if they take the melody, rhythm and other musical effects of someone else’s song, they are in breach of copyright.
Mr .GG@GramuGandari
@advocatemahere But Fadzayi ,Charamba was singing a bible verse . It's not an original composition

@MkanyaMkanya @panashedave @advocatemahere I agree. And copyright has a limit of at least 70yrs after the life of the copyright holder. Most traditional songs are over 200years so good to sample.
English

@panashedave @advocatemahere Chinozoitika manje ndechekuti dzimwe nziyo idzo hadzina muridzi they a just traditional songs. You can't trace the original author eg nhemamusasa, chemutengure

@Groundbettle @drjaytee87 Jah Signal was wrong on all the issues the Charambas cite. Good they ain't asking for money. But remember By the rivers of Babylon, a psalm of lamentation being turned into secular music
English

@Mukonowasauka @drjaytee87 According to the fishers of men, a less than professional WhatsApp text message was sent by Jah Signal requesting permission, which was denied. The song was still produced with no citations or credit due given.
English

@Groundbettle @drjaytee87 True, I believe that was not sought knowing our country's economic environment. I think the good song was on its last legs & the rendition revived it. I don't like most renditions be it by the artist's children or newcomers. This one I think is a masterpiece thus all our interest.
English

@drjaytee87 So kana uri mumusic industry you shoud to know every song so that hauzoimbe zvakaimbwa nevamwe?.
