The Gene–Diet Mismatch Hypothesis Different human populations evolved under different ecological pressures. As a result, they developed different metabolic strengths and vulnerabilities. These vulnerabilities are like holes in a roof. Every group has some holes, but the number, size and severity of the holes differ from group to group. People of sub-Saharan African ancestry appear to carry a larger set of metabolic sensitivities, and these sensitivities tend to be more strongly expressed when exposed to the modern Western diet. These include: •highly efficient FADS gene variants that rapidly convert linoleic acid into arachidonic acid •strong sensitivity to salt and faster sodium retention •stronger fructose to uric acid conversion •lower nitric oxide availability •the Duffy null phenotype affecting inflammation and immune signalling •higher hepcidin levels and iron sequestration •greater vulnerability to high dietary acid load •greater micronutrient depletion under inflammation •stronger inflammatory responses to environmental stress •greater HPA axis strain under chronic metabolic stress Each vulnerability is a hole in the roof. The more holes there are, and the larger they are, the easier it is for the modern diet to flood the system. Because these vulnerabilities interact, multiple systems are affected at once: •inflammation •lipid metabolism •blood pressure •glucose and insulin handling •prenatal development •birthweight and gestational length •head circumference •iron status •immune function •cortisol rhythms •self regulation and attention •brain aging and dementia risk This creates a multi-system metabolic load that compounds over time and across generations. Crucially, no large Black population today has ever lived on a diet that is aligned with these metabolic traits. Nearly all live in environments that trigger several vulnerabilities at the same time, including high linoleic acid, low DHA, high fructose, high sodium, low magnesium and potassium, high dietary acid load and high levels of processed food. Because every hole is open at once, the true developmental potential of Black populations is unknown. We have never seen a control group where the roof is patched. Without that control group, it is premature to assume that current cognitive, behavioural or health outcomes reflect genetic limits. The mismatch could plausibly explain why Black populations experience higher rates of: •hypertension •diabetes •asthma •schizophrenia diagnoses •dementia •preterm birth •low birthweight •inflammation •dysregulation •cardiovascular disease And why the same environment produces greater harm in Black populations than in others. The hypothesis says that the combined effect of these interacting vulnerabilities may be very large. Fixing the diet so that it aligns with the genetic and metabolic architecture could potentially produce: •better pregnancy outcomes •larger head size •stronger early self regulation •lower inflammation •improved cognition and attention •lower mental health burden •more stable relationships •safer neighbourhoods •more robust ageing •better educational performance •higher social mobility And because these changes influence parenting, culture, school environments, partner selection and community norms, the effects would compound across generations, potentially transforming entire communities. This is the gene–diet mismatch hypothesis.
Tyrone Williams@ImmuneHack

I think that there's a scientifically plausible way to reduce US Black underperformance without changing anyone's genes... ...by fixing a gene-diet mismatch that drives inflammation, which in turn leads to health disparities and contributes to the racial IQ & achievement gaps.

🚨BOMBSHELL EXPOSÉ: TREVOR PHILLIPS RIPS LID OFF LABOUR'S GROOMING GANGS COVER-UP 💣 Keir Starmer and the Labour Party Sabotaging National Inquiry to Hide Racial Targeting of White Girls and Decades of Failure in Their Own Councils In a devastating intervention, Sir Trevor Phillips has blown the whistle on what he calls a deliberate political cover-up at the heart of Britain's grooming gangs scandal. The former Equality and Human Rights Commission chair accuses Labour of sabotaging the national inquiry because of its explosive racial implications — and because so much of the abuse took place under Labour-controlled councils that did nothing to stop it. “The government clearly never wanted these two things to be put together,” Phillips declared. He points to Labour's efforts to downplay “the intersection of race and sexual predation,” insisting the perpetrators deliberately targeted victims because they were white and outside the groomers' community. “These children are chosen because of their race. They are chosen because they are white and because they’re outside the community of the groomers.” Phillips highlights the chilling uniqueness of these crimes: unlike typical child abuse kept hidden, grooming gangs operate in plain sight — with perpetrators knowing they are shielded. “The other thing is these people know that they are protected. They’re protected politically, they’re protected by social workers, they’re protected by local police. That is the scandal here.” He pulls no punches on why a full reckoning has been avoided: “Much of this took place in local Labour councils and the authorities who were supposed to be watching over this, stopping it, monitoring it and all the rest of it were controlled by those councils and they did nothing.” This is not just institutional failure — it's a politically motivated shield thrown over horrific, racially aggravated sexual exploitation that went on for years under Labour's watch. Right now, they deserve justice — and Britain deserves the full, fearless national inquiry that has been denied for far too long.

I believe in root cause analysis, but I think the left doesn't go far enough. E.g., the causes of crime: they cite poverty, racism, lack of resources, education and opportunities. Go further and deeper to solve the problem. Look at genetics and existence.

@BernieSanders We will need a new economic model if AI displaces large amounts of work. So the priority should be building that model urgently. But arguing that we should delay or derail a technology that could dramatically improve living standards (if we manage it properly) is self-defeating.

The most frustrating thing about this is that early brain development is highly plastic and responsive to nutrition and early environmental stimulation. So claiming that smaller brain volume in certain regions among Black children is simply due to racism is deeply unhelpful, because it ignores the actual biological and environmental inputs that improve outcomes and replaces testable developmental avenues with moral signalling, leaving nothing actionable to change. Black people are left believing that racism is the primary threat to their progress, while white people are cast as the cause, which fuels resentment and fosters racial animus. What makes this especially frustrating is that if early developmental constraints are removed from preconception through early childhood, particularly those involving gene–diet mismatch, then observed group differences in brain development, brain growth, and cognition should shrink substantially. That alone would likely ease racial tensions, since much of the discord stems from the need to explain persistent disparities in outcomes. But this can only happen if we are willing to move beyond moral narratives and focus on identifying and fixing the upstream biological and developmental constraints that actually shape outcomes.

so they scanned 7,000 kids, found brain volume differences between races, controlled for zero genetic factors, and concluded it must be racism and poverty by this logic every biological difference between populations is caused by racism. height is racist. skull shape is racist. melanin distribution is racist. biology itself is a white supremacist conspiracy

One of the great wet roads causes rain moments of our lives. They scanned over 7,000 kids studying various parts of the brain including the amygdala (processing emotion) and the prefrontal cortex volume (long term planing and complex analysis). They found a statistically significant smaller volume in black children in both regions. They also asked the parents about their socioeconomic status and found, not all that surprisingly, that the parents had lower academic achievement, higher rates of criminal convictions, and of course higher rates of poverty. All the negative behaviors one would expect with poor planning and emotional regulation. The structures and size of the brain are genetically related, the parents and children won’t differ all that much. Instead this paper simply makes the claim that the poverty and shitty life the parents made has damaged the children’s brains. There’s no before or after, there’s no signs of damage or malformation, there’s no comparison to the parents etc… they simply gave the kids an MRI, measured a significant racial difference and said this is because racism.

I often hear this claim, where people say that studies show IQ gaps persist even after controlling for SES and years of education, therefore all environmental interventions have been exhausted and the IQ gap is thus purely the result of genetic differences. But, controlling for SES and years of education is insufficient evidence to support this claim, because a claim of genetic causation requires ruling out upstream developmental confounders such as preconception and prenatal nutrition, maternal health, early infection burden, toxic stress, gene–diet mismatch, micronutrient deficiencies, and early childhood environment. Simply adjusting for SES and years of parental education does not do that. We know that black children born to highly educated parents with high-SES fare no better educationally than white children born to high school educated low-SES parents. But, we also know that highly educated, high-SES black women have worse birth outcomes and have higher obesity rates than high school educated low-SES white women. More importantly, science requires that the burden of proof is on the person asserting a claim. Watson claimed a biological hierarchy, yet failed to demonstrate a causal mechanism. That failure of evidential restraint is why he suffered professional discredit. If you want to make bold claims as a scientist, then go and do the work required to build the evidence that supports those bold claims. If not, you should expect to face the consequences.

@ImmuneHack @diegrueneKatze @nathancofnas @nytimes Actually there is evinece for differences in mental ability after controlling for both SES and edcuation. My point is the claim he made hasn't been disproven, therefor he shouldn't have been canceled. Plenty of scientists believe something not yet 100% proven.

You’re confusing three different things. 1. Observed IQ differences exist. That’s not disputed. 2. Claiming those differences are genetically caused - which is what he did - is a much stronger claim. 3. That claim requires evidence that the gaps persist after controlling for prenatal nutrition, early life health, gene–diet mismatch, schooling quality, infection burden, stress, and family environment. That evidence doesn’t exist. Therefore, as a consequence, he fell from grace because he abandoned evidential restraint which is demanded of scientists of the highest stature.

It’s very clear why Watson fell from favour, yet some on the right insist on framing it as a conspiracy and evidence that the system is rigged against them. It isn’t. Anyone who abandons evidential restraint and goes off-piste will eventually face the same outcome.

@WhiteEquality16 @diegrueneKatze @nathancofnas @nytimes He failed to allow the evidence to constrain his conclusions which led to him making sweeping claims that were not supported by the data. Once he abandoned epistemic restraint he renounced his position as a revered scientist and instead was reduced to an ideological polemicist.

She fails to acknowledge that black women should take any responsibility for the disproportionately high rate of obesity among them and instead chooses to attribute it almost entirely on external factors such as racism. This is clearly stupid. However, she actually made two valid points. 1. Chronic stress (flatter cortisol/HPA responses) is linked to dysfunctional metabolism which is more prevalent among black women. 2. This is part of the reason why standard dieting often doesn’t work for black women in the same way it does for others; it is also due to genetic differences that impact things such as salt and fructose sensitivity and fatty acid metabolism. The fix is to eat a diet aligned with their underlying biology. The hard part is that this means unlearning norms and giving up convenient, hyper-palatable foods that are everywhere. That makes it virtually impossible to happen at scale without pharmacological support. GLP-1–type drugs, combined with a gene-aligned diet, could help stabilise metabolism long enough for real dietary change to take hold and lead to scalable, population-level improvements in metabolic health.

This must be the dumbest journalist of all time. @paoramos tries to convince two Trump supporters that there is no scientific evidence that proves different ethnicities have different genetics, even citing the NIH as source. This is a patently false statement that only the lowest IQ’d, woke, journalist would make. It took me about 30 seconds to confirm that the NIH does indeed support the science of genetic differences for different ethnicities.
