This interview on @bbcnewsnight with @vicderbyshire is an absolute car crash for Andy Burnham. All over the place. No clue about 'fiscal rules', tetchy, unable to answer basic questions. Why do some people see him as the Messiah who can save Labour?
The heroes of Normandy deserve remembrance, gratitude and humility. Using D-Day commemorations as a platform for culture-war politics is shameless. Yet that increasingly seems to be standard practice for the Trump administration.
This is what many fail to understand. Deciding to build a nation around world class public transport, which would require the prioritisation of trains and busses and trams ahead of cars, is not the same as banning cars. A whimsical trips to the Lake District or the Northumberland Coast would still be available for motorists (and indeed may be far more pleasurable if there were fewer cars on the road).
