Really inspired by all of the talks at @biposa #biposa - there are a lot of trailblazers in paediatric ophthalmology. It was a privilege to design the logo this year

Study shows eye scans could diagnose Parkinson's disease early by seven years | ITV News. Relentless hard work by ⁦⁦@sktywagner⁩ ⁦@pearsekeane⁩ and the #AlzEye team. An incredible milestone and just the beginning of a very exciting future! itv.com/news/2023-08-2…

@KilduffCaroline Hi Caroline, it's a contact camera like the Retcam so would be reasonable for patients sedated in ICU or small infants(within reason) but an awake older child will not be able to tolerate a contact camera :)

Had an opportunity last month to test another widefield retinal camera called the SUOER SW 8000 - a specialist camera used for retinal imaging in paediatric patients particularly neonates. Special thanks to Optohellas and M.E.D. Surgical for introducing this camera! Thank you for the visit and the insightful discussions! To maximise utility, widefield cameras need to have: 1. Good quality images 2. Wide field of views or clear peripherals 3. Portability 4. Easy to use interface 5. Connectivity Some of these factors are more important than others (depending on your needs) Some of my thoughts about the SW8000: - It has a very light camera head relative to the other cameras. It is easily manoeuvred with one hand. - In a head to head with other top line cameras, I think the picture quality is just lacking a little in terms of its colours BUT it has surprisingly good peripheral clarity. In 3 out of 7 babies that we screened, we could clearly capture the Ora Serrata(without indentation). This is not commonly visualised at all with the other cameras. See the example pic I posted, an experienced ROP screener would appreciate what I mean here. - The default comes with FFA (it is not an "optional module" like the rest) and for the first time ever, you can switch to FFA with one tap on the screen ie no more filter change or light source change. - The camera is plugged straight into the laptop without an intermediate console and the whole unit is packable into a suitcase = good portability in between units - I wish it had a shutter/focus on the handpiece itself so that we can move away from the footpedal! Overall, a very impressive lightweight kit that is able to carry its own. It will fulfil a gap in the existing market. ------- This market is very limited and there are only a few options for machine make and model. All of them have strengths and weaknesses. I hope we see more and more development in this field as time goes on. The future of Retinopathy Of Prematurity is very dependent on it! 🙏 linkedin.com/posts/drdamoey…
