This #RareDiseaseDay we’re spotlighting four rare eye conditions our researchers are working to better understand and treat. From Usher syndrome to Charles Bonnet Syndrome, we’re developing new diagnostics & treatments and raising awareness to improve patient lives.

Today is #RareDiseasesDay, and we’re shining a spotlight on the incredible work taking place at our Moorfields Clinical Research Facility (CRF), supported by @MoorfieldsBRC, which saw treatment for a rare genetic disorder approved for NHS prescription in England. Leber Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON) is a rare genetic disorder which leads to rapidly worsening vision in both eyes. The treatment, Idebenone, works by boosting energy production in the cells of the optic nerve 👁️ People taking the treatment reported an improvement in their central vision, making it easier to recognise faces and non-verbal cues.
