There's not enough teachers to run the building today. But they don't want to admit that and I don't even know they have a plan or procedure for what to do when it gets like this. Does your school have a set number of teachers you need to have? Have you ever had to close?

@DanielPeak16 @heymrsbond As someone who chose to wear button-down shirts and a tie everyday for 17 years as an elementary teacher of 6th graders (so they saw me all day), I never experienced this. Pajama day was just a regular day for most of them. Some boys didn't shower or comb their hair most days.

@heymrsbond It is not about the teacher (in this case you) or being comfortable. Kids need role models on how to act and dress in the workplace / professional envirinoment. They watch and imitate- it goes back to Albert Bandura's Social Learning Theory- youtu.be/btIdoHA16_Y

@MarcusLuther6 There are parents who will then email me and volunteer my lunch hour to catch the child up on the missed teaching...

@MarcusLuther6 Instead they tell me that only 20% of my walls can have items on them. That's apparently the real issue.

@edtechmathteach Doing this would make me too anxious to sleep. Already between Friday evening and this morning, I've put in at least 6 hours of planning, giving feedback, and writing emails. I will most likely put in 4 more hours today. You've got a better mindset but I don't know how to change.

I am overwhelmed with work right now but I refuse to do any today. After the week I had this past week, I need a full day to recharge. If not everything gets done tomorrow, it is what it is. My mental health is coming first right now.

@TeacherOnTopic I had this just this week where I decided not to take a day due to the need to write plans and then dealing with the repercussions of being gone when I return.

I am struggling. I have been telling myself for the past few weeks that I should schedule a personal day so I don't burn all the way out. I realized yesterday that a day off won't solve my challenges - I actually have to adapt how I do things, and that's harder.

people on reddit are badly deciphering a mystery cookie cutter and we are absolutely not using cookie cutters to their fullest potential

Schools function on a lot of ‘good will’ from staff. Offering to do things like staying late, organising things last minute, going on trips. When staff are exhausted or start putting boundaries in place because they’re burning out it’s quite a shock for some people.

@EDUwithEmily I've also never had coffee. A lot of people think this is impossible, so it's nice to see I'm not the only one who "somehow manages."

It's October, and I'm finally getting the chance to read @michaelregina's The Sleepover! My Adamsville bookmark probably won't be getting much work as I fly through this creepy graphic novel.

@sage_stage As an elementary teacher, I have 3 hours a week of plan time-- technically less since I have to walk my kids to their specials. I'll never understand how people say they take nothing home when planning, grading, etc for 6-7 different subjects a day.

I get 5 prep periods a week. 60 minutes and 90 minutes alternating every day with a 30 minute coverage scheduled. I'm trying to limit my outside of school hours. I think I should assign a day of the week to specific tasks, and that's the time they get.

@ModestTeacher And they won't wear them. Many students last year took them off and ran in the field during recess with just socks because they didn't want mud or creases on the shoes.

When I was a kid, I got one new pair of shoes every year and that was during back to school shopping. Kids today have so many shoes they have to mount them on their walls.

@EDUwithEmily Grading math and social studies assessments, finishing report cards, and planning for next week. Also, finally getting my dahlias in the ground if time allows.

@theDRAMAgoat1 I would take kindness. A whole week of it from my students and their parents? That would be amazing.

@MrsCHeidrich Dan Poblocki is a good go to. Katherine Arden (Small Spaces) and Michael Regina (The Sleepover) have also been recent favorites.

@JayWamsted I dressed as Snape for Halloween one year and removed my glasses for accuracy. I was asked if I was wearing under eye makeup by a kid. Nope. Just my tired eyes.

My students asked me to take my glasses off & immediately half the class said “ewwwwww” No teacher makes it long in the game without a healthy self-esteem😂🤣🤦🏻‍♂️

Well, Lockwood & Co. is the best show I’ve seen in a long time. I simply love how Joe Cornish makes entertainment for kids. He doesn’t hold back on his scares, or talk down to them in his execution or tone. Intrigued to check out the book series as well.
