@squeeville Only he could decide on the appropriateness of the characterisation - but I hope he would see the piece as a note of appreciation and gratitude.

@steev8 Thanks, Steve. Interesting as ever. Anecdotally, greater numbers of runners focused on racing last year - the first ‘proper’ year of racing since 2019, hence less interest in the rounds.

Bob Graham Round completions were slightly down this year at just the 4th highest ever. Why? Breakdown for men/women here: itsahill.wordpress.com/2023/01/02/bob… I'd be interested in anyone's comments on why they think it might have been a quieter year in 2022 for numbers of Bob Graham Rounds.

The Tinto Tiptoe for under-14s will be held on Saturday, starting shortly after adults set off in the main Tinto Hill Race. It is the only place to earn a @CarnethyHRC ‘I am a hill runner!’ badge. (2pm, 2km, 10p to enter.)

Mountain Leader assessment? ‘The worst two days of my life’ is the most memorable ‘review’ I’ve heard. It definitely wasn’t that bad.

@tompalmerauthor If it’s any consolation, my nine year old is really enjoying Defenders and we both loved Arctic Star.

Third is The Mountains Are Calling by Jonny Muir, (with an average score of 7 out of 10), a lyric ode to (mostly Scottish) mountain running. Beautiful writing, if perhaps lacking narrative drive at times ...

It seems the 30-gel approach to round-running is faster than the 22-banana approach. A stunning insight into the niche fascination of Tranter’s Round. podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/epi…

@Nathan__Coombs I suppose my statement says more about my feelings towards the Pentlands than Spain.

Coastal hill running in Spain. I still prefer the Pentlands.

@iancampbell251 @George_Heriots Pupils have been encouraged to apply for bus passes (and lots have), while the school promotes a range of alternative-to-car travel, such as a ‘walking bus’, and takes part in the Scottish Workplace Journey Challenge.

In an Activities Week trip with a difference, S3 pupils considered their impact on the environment in visits to reforesting and rewilding projects, a dairy farm and a commercial estate. The conclusion? We must tread more lightly.

A quick trip to Bardon Hill, Leicestershire's County top. While it's only 278m high the fact that the quarry below is 200m deep meant it felt a lot higher! Some great views out as far as 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 @LDWA1 @MuirJonny
